maribor cathedral (church of st john the baptist)

Maribor is not the sort of place to go sightseeing as there are not a multitude of things to do. The Cathedral though is certainly worth a visit although, to be honest, it is no more than a large church!

Nice cathedral in city. You can see paintings, architectural elements, feel the spirituality of this place. Worth for a visit.

This is a nice cathedral in Maribor. Makes sence to visit and enjoy it. Located close to the beautiful building of the postoffice.

Not very impressive, I liked more the story about it and the area around. Still, makes sense to go if you are there.

Yust vistit this church and sit down, look arround you and see the statues and paintings of this wonderfull church. If you are lucky they play some music, as they did during my stay.

After seeing so many churches in Europe, I can describe Maribor Cathedral as modest. However it is one of the highlights of any visit to the city and it has an interesting story.

This is a modest cathedral having mostly Gothic architecture. There is also some interesting stained glass.

There is not much to say, but amazing.. We really like this Church.. The interior is breathtaking ..you must visit this place

the cathedral is fine and worth the visit. the visit to the tower of the cathedral is a must though, to view maribor from above. fingers crossed you will find it open to the public though

The cathedral itself is beautiful as cathedrals generally are. What I really loved was the opportunity to climb the bell tower (150+ steps, no elevator), the views over Maribor are fantastic from there, and the exhibition on the clock and the city guards' life is also very interesting.

The church is lovely and has some interesting history. They also do music performances in there which has good acoustics. A must see for tourists.

As a citizen of Maribor city I must say that the Chatedral is part of my environment and that's why it is not so enraptured with. But if I'm looking from other perspective is Cathedral one nice remarkableness of Maribor city. The architecture is not so glorious, like cathedrals in other towns. It's much smaller and modest. That fall in with fact that Maribor was long time small insignificant town. Church arhitecture is mixture of many diffrent styles - baroque, romanesque and gothic style. I liked the medieval tombstones on the outside walls of cathedral. But other things - for example inside of cathedral did't impress me much. If you are once in Maribor and want to see Cathedral you really must not forget to climb up to the bell tower. From there is really wonderful view to old part of Maribor. But unfortunately is climbing possible just upon previous arrangement. To sum up Cathedral is the oldest church in town and that makes it one of the most significant attractions in Maribor. Otherwise is in my opinion nothing special.

Кафедральный собор небольшого словенского городка. Охов и ахов не вызывает, но зайти в него советую. Очень приятное звучание органа. Если будете в Мариборе летом, то можно посидеть на лавочке в скверике около Собора. Тут много цветов и красиво.

Кафедральный собор, он же Собор Святого Иоанна Крестителя – это главный храм Марибора. Но, не смотря на своё главенство, меня лично он не поразил ни пышным убранством, ни величием. Можно сказать, обычный, «среднестатистический» католический храм, хотя некоторые его детали очень и очень красивы. И даже скажу, что снаружи он мне запомнился больше!
