the collection of art nouveau furniture and objects is truly stunning, so well arranged in rooms which might well have been the way the rooms were in the 20's
This is one of the key must-see European places to visit if you are interested in Art Nouveau (Deco). Built around the core collection of Eugene Corbin, there are some unique pieces by Galle, Daum, Majorelle, Gruber and so on. There are also two complete rooms reconstructed in their entirety so you can clearly see how the style worked a a whole rather than as separate objects. Furniture, ceramics, glass, pictures ... fabulous.
A bit out of Nancy's city centre you'll find le Musée de l'École de Nancy, an art nouveau museum found in the former house of Eugène Corbin. Not very big, but you can definitely pass hours in here discovering all it has to offer. Each room is furnished with exquisite art nouveau art and furniture. A definite must-see of Nancy!
A pretty house built during 1920/1925 for a rich family of Nancy in the style " Artr Nouveau " . Rooms on 3 floors are fully furnished in Art Nouveau style well explained ( name of the maker , date ) ,often complete assortment ; Paints also . Windows are mostly flower stained-glass .Staircases , corridors are in same style . Ceilings are painted or beautiful wood . Surrounded by a garden . No car park into , but a wide free car park exist at 300 meters, near a big old swimming pool . Not convenient for children ( staircases , fragile furniture , too long for young people ). No escalators ! I wish you a fine time in this house . G.Raux
Easy to find museum with a lot of art works of different kinds. Was given free pass for being a student which was nice. Quite, great for art lovers.
Our senses honed by the extensive Art Nouveau exhibits on the Musee d’Orsay, we went to Nancy specifically to see this museum at one of the centers of the Art Nouveau style. We loved it. As others have mentioned, many of the rooms in this former mansion are totally furnished in Art Nouveau, and the walls, ceilings and windows are also of the style. Our friends were not previously so interested in Art Nouveau, but left converted. This is a remarkable collection and well worth visiting. Access is a little difficult, since it is not on the tram line.
well maintained fully stocked residence turned museum. filled with local artists art deco era furnishings and decor. pleasant. super friendly and helpful staff. not sure about price upon entry. we accidentally walked in without knowing there was a fee! oops!
a very nice museum about the art nouveau movement in nancy. Slightly out of the central area, but worth the trip to visit it.
We rushed across Nancy to get into the museum for the last hour and it was totally worth it! You can park for free in the big car park across the road (where there is an amazing indoor Olympic swimming pool, thermal pool and outdoor pool) and it was €6 each to get in. The audio guides are very detailed, maybe too much, but you can listen to whatever you like. The bedrooms and bathroom were glorious and there were dozens of stunning pieces of art nouveau furniture and decoration. It was incredible to think a core of half a dozen artists in one city created all this. Despite being a fan of art nouveau and Art Deco I had not heard of the Nancy school so this was a major education. The garden was lovely too! We had spent a fee hours exploring the city centre around the mind-blowing Place Stanislas and didn't actually see that much art nouveau - there is much more in Glasgow! Maybe it is all inside the lovely mansions we saw .
This is a must see for visitors to Nancy, particularly if you have an interest in the Art Nouveau movement. There is some great furniture, lamps, artworks and stained glass on display, pretty much all signage is in French. The garden is also a pleasant spot.If you come out on the number 8 bus (getting off at Nancy Thermal) don't make the mistake of thinking that the bus stop on the opposite side of the road will take you back the same way. The bus stop you want is just around the corner (walk north back up rue du Sergent-Blandan, then turn right into Rue Mon Desert and you'll see it).If you do visit this Musee, don't leave without walking the length of Rue Felix-Faure (head south down rue du Sergent-Blandan, and take the first right). Here is a street full of great Art Nouveau architecture. If you are looking for lunch, we'd recommend the cafe in the nearby Parc Sainte-Marie.
This museum is a real treat for lovers of Art Nouveau. The glassware is displayed in a traditional, not terribly inspiring way, but the furniture is set out in a series of rooms. It really adds to the experience to see the pieces displayed together. To have the rooms contained in an Art Nouveau house is a further bonus. It helps to have some previous knowledge of the Art Nouveau movement because there is little in the way of information about the exhibits, other than the name of the maker and a date of manufacture. Some information boards would be useful. However, if there is a better museum of Art Nouveau anywhere, I would like to know about it!
We had particularly wanted to see the Art Nouveau buildings in Nancy (there is a really good leaflet “Art Nouveau Les Itineraires”– that highlights different tours you can make on foot to see the various sites which are located in different parts of the city) and visiting the gardens and museum was a great culmination to our journey, It showcased the work of the different designers and the interrelationship between them. What we particularly appreciated was the way – like Rennie Mackintosh – they were multitalented designers – buildings; metalwork; furniture; glassware: silver – and each had a distinctive style. The gardens were beautifully laid out and very peaceful. If you are in the area take the time to walk a few streets along (opposite the thermal swimming baths) and walk along Rue Felix-Faure. Every house is architect designed from the same era.The only difficulty we had was in getting the right bus from the city centre (I think they have recently changed the bus numbering system ). You need bus 6,7 or 8 and get off Pl. Paul PainleveAnother good Art Nouveau site is Le Parc de Saurupt which can be reached on a No. 11 tram from the city centre. A day ticket for public transport only costs 3.40 euros
This museum is a "must see" for lovers of Art Nouveau and those with a curious mind. While away a couple of hours and be delighted and amazed by the fluid, organic form of the furniture, lighting and glass all set out as if in rooms in a house. The garden is also pleasant to stroll around. Entry fee is 6€ and is well worth the effort of seeking out this wee gem.
nice art nouveau house and interior in quiet garden outside the centre of the city. Gives a good impression of this style.
Amazing beaux arts museum!!! A total must see. Stunning examples of furniture, stained glass and other objects d'art. A total must see.
