Wonderful views, definetely worth seeing. It looks like a desert. Pick non windy day for a trip. Having sand literally everywhere is not a pleasant feeling. Luckily the place itself mskes up for it, it's one of a kind.
Great fun and totally new experience!!Would like to come back here with my own children in the future...
I really wanted to see the Slowinski National Park, and got very disappointed on site. Maybe my expectations were to high... I've been to Sand Dunes National Park, CO year earlier and that was a stunning experience, or maybe I've approach the park from wrong direction - was coming from Ustka (west part of the park). The trails are very poorly marked. I was hoping to get to the lighthouse and instead approached one of the dunes after couple km walk. On the other hand, if you are in the same location a must see attraction is the open-air museum in Kluki which is filled with chequered houses - some 15km away from the west entrance to the Slowinski NP.
Sand dunes in Słowiński National Park are a must-see when you are travelling the Baltic Coast. You can get there by foot, by an electric mini-car or by a rented bike. Don't try to picnic, though, as you will get sand everywhere!
great day, we went in middle of August, we did not fancy the long walk through forest, so bought a RETURN ticket, we then waited approximately an hour in queue to go on mini train down to the sand dunes, then quite a long walk up to the top of sand dunes, great views, great experience, but then another hour plus queue to get the train back, we assumed a shop/café/toilets or something at end, but nothing, we had not taken a drink with us, as we were not anticipating the long queues. We had seen a museum mid way, but the train went past, luckily we asked BEFORE we got on train back, and train stopped for us to get off, we then proceeded back with a tractor type transport back, after waiting in another queue. Great day our, but too long to wait in queues.
We were accomodated in camp Lebski in Leba and went to Slowinski national park to see the sand dunes by foot. We started in forest, which is really beautiful and then continued on beach. If you are walking also on the beach, do not forget a hat or something :) It was 8 km walk but for me it was not so bad, as i am used to walking and hiking. Also this long walk was really worth it! Sand dunes are so beautiful and photogenic. The white sand and blue sky were really unforgettable. On the way back there are bufets with food, you can rent a bike, or take a ride on small "train", also there is Military musem and beautiful lake. I saw a sign that the entrance is paid, but no one was asking for money from us, so i don't know.
Especially during sunset but notice that local transport cart goes only till 7 pm, the way back to Łeba takes ca. 2 hours
We parked our RV on a campsite in Leba. The owner organized a small taxi that brought us to the entrance of Slovinsky National Park. From there is a shuttle service that stops at the bottom of the Dune. We had to climb up an after a couple of minutes we forgot that we were in Poland. The sun was burning down and the light was reflected by the white sand. We took photos and when we showed them to our friends they were guessing that we spent our holiday somewhere in Egypt. This dune moves and swallows bushes and trees that are in its way. That force of nature is amazing. For going back we walked and halfway back to Leba there is a shuttle service by boat that runs on the backwater behind the dune. One should count half a day to do this experience, but it is worthwhile doing.
I've been to the Dunes many times as a child, but last year we decided to go there with my boyfriend. I didn't remember exactly how it was, so I didn't know we'd have to walk more than 8km from the bus station. The weather was exhausting - around 36°C in the shadow. I also didn't know that the entrance to national park has to be payed. That was a bit of surprise for us, even though it's just 6PLN for person. We didn't have enough money to take a ride there, so we just walked. And I need to say that it was the nicest walk through the typical polish forest, when at the end of the long and tiring walk - there was a wonderful, breath-taking view at little piece of Sahara surrounded by forrests and the sea. And even though you cannot walk through whole dunes, it's really worth it! I totally understand, that they don't want tourist running around whole national park, because people would just mess and polute the place! :) You can take the same way back, or return at the beach-side, which is also amazing expierience, but walking through deep sand may not be as comfortable as walking at the sidewalk through the forrest.Anyways, on the halfway to the dunes, there's some World War's Rocket Museum and a bar. So if you need to take a rest, or see something interesting, you can stop there too! :)I reccomend the place very much! But maybe not in very hot days (at least bring a lot of water with you). Good Luck!
The dunes itself are amazing however there is a list of bad things. To start with, there is no card payments and no ATM on site - so bring cash, loads of it!!! The parking cost 2,5PLN per 1/2 hour - first rip off. Entry fee is cheap only 6 PLN however the gate is 5,5 km from the dunes. There is a boring long walk of at least 40 minutes through forest on a concrete pavement. You can rent a bike but once you get to the dunes you cant take it up there so you need to leave it on a bike parking, 5 PLN when secured or free on a regular one. Another rip-off as they do not provide bike locks and there is a huge notice next to it - you leave it at your own risk. As and alternative to a terrible boring walk is an electric car ride. It is quick but costs 15 PLN per person!!!!! Another rip-off provided by private company not a park. Finally when you get to the dunes you can literally only walk on top and go down. Not what I would expect from a National Park. So the choice you have is more than 150 PLN cost for a 2+2 family or a boring and tiring visit. The suggestion I have is to avoid forest and walk along the beach, it is long, wide and amazingly empty. Or maybe just skip it - this is my personal advice - and saying it I have to admit that I am a fun of nature and could spend all my time in Real national parks.
As a group of 12 people, we decided to make a day of visiting Slowinsky National Park and the moving sand dunes. As we had all been at a wedding the night before the option to walk the 5.5 KM was completely out of the question. We opted to take a trolley to the park which was privately booked through our hotel. The trolley took us to a lookout point at the lake where you could climb a tower for the panoramic view of the lake. We boarded a small water taxi which took us across the lake over the the opening of the park. Once we arrived at the park we walked for about 2 km until we reached the Sand Dunes though a lush and diverse forest with toilets along the way and well maintained trails. Once we arrived at the Dunes, we all divided into smaller groups taking our time exploring the Dunes, seaside and lakeside. The sheer size of the Dunes is enough that other tourists don't crowd you and there is ample space to relax in quiet while you soak it all in. I definitely recommend taking your shoes off and also wearing longer pants if it's windy and the sand grains can irritate the skin. We took a bus back to hotel from the park parking lot.
We rented bikes from Leba and went for a ride through the forest up until the sand dunes. It was a wonderful experience: the forrest looked magical, we had and encounter with a curious little fox but the highlight were the dunes: it really looked like a desert and after the walk in the sand finally reaching the sea is like a prize! We took the train from Gdansk to Lebork and afterwords a bus to Leba. Everything is really cheap in Poland (compared to western countries) so it definetely is worth a trip!
Zabojad Exploring Poland and National Park cimbing the sand Dune and discovering a Sister to the dune Du Pila near bordeaux in the Baltic was a surprising Experience. According to the size it is the largest in Europe. The Park is very beautiful and a wonderful expedition during summertime. Happy Sharing Happy Inside
This is one of those places where you do not care if crowds gather, because the majesty of the place seems to make a swarm of people insignificant. Nonetheless, to come here first thing in the morning and enjoy the 5.5 km walk to the big dunes at roads end in relative solitude is lovely. The dunes completely reshape from year to year, to the extent it is supposed to be like visiting a different place. The vastness and serenity of the beach is also lovely. The only Baltic site that can compete for natural beauty is Lithuania's Kurische Nehrung.
I'm polish and I've been many times to see dunes years ago. This time I decided to take there my partner (australian)on holidays to show him bit of Poland. And I'm very ashamed. Place is beautiful but to get there you need to spend lots of money. We were traveling from Leba side. It started at the car park, prices -2.50zl for half an hour ( you need at least 4h to return to the car as there is 5.5km walk one way). Then you need to pay to enter the park - 6zl. If you don't feel like walking 11km (return) you can take a 10min ride to the dunes for 15zl one way, and couple of museums on the way which you need to pay to enter either. I can't justify prices they set there. Toilets ( toi, toi) dirty, smelly and full, you can't litter but there are hardly few bins ( none when you get to the dunes, there is lots of rubbish in the sand on the way to the beach). I gave my very good rating only because this park is so beautiful and worth visiting, but not the way they try to get to your wallet and not enough facilities for that many people visiting.
