Amazing collection of the Swedish life. Historie in a way that makes it very interesting. It is for young people and old people a nice experience in the world of Swedish life.
A lot of interesting things to see outside but as we where there in the winter it was closed. That was a disappointment . Inside was only a few things to see but in a way interesting, you can learn more about the Vikings for example.
There are a lot of things to do, try and see for the whole family. We visited with kids, aged from 6 to 11 years. We had two great days out at the museum. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to visit the inside part of the exhibition, but next time we will. A visit can absolutely be recommended. Kids enter for free, adults 250 SEK in entrance, but the ticket is valid for two days in a row. Really nice to visit a place where you can learn something, things to try out for kids and "plastic free". I look forward to the next visit whenever that might be.
We had a great time in this museum with my friends. People at the entrance were really nice and welcoming. The museum itself is also amazing. We went through a nice slide to get downstairs: that woke up our inner childrend ;-)The setting is gorgeous, very interactive, and you get to learn a lot of things about the region.
We really liked Jamtli, it is wonderful for all kids between the age of 1-10. Our son is three and he really really liked it, i'm so glad we decided to go there and not to the Zoo (which is also in Östersund). the only disadvantage is that it's quite expensive, it costs 250 SEK, and it's also way too big to see in one day. We were there for four hours and hadn't seen everything when we left. I recommend taking lunch/snacks on the trip.
An extraordinary museum with a most unique and wonderful tapestry at the centre of it. The exhibits are very imaginatively displayed and the staff are extremely helpful. The outdoor folk museum was not open when we were there but we could wander about the area. We had a very good light lunch in the cafe.
If you want to tavel back in time and also like history, then this Place is fantastic. Actors play the roles of people in such a fantastically realistic way, and sometimes it is hard not to just feel like you have stepped into Another Life and time! Plenty to see and do, and very near citycentre too.
Great in-or-outdoor museum. One of the best I've ever visited. Lot's to see, do and experience for ALL ages. Be transformed in the photostudio, eat great food in the forrest, visit all kind's of historical eras and in the summertime you can even talk to the people that lived during different times. The "Överhogdalsbonaderna" cannot be missed. Enjoy!
I visited Jamtli now mainly because of two special exhibitions, one with swedish painting and one by some sami/lapp artists. The first was ok but the other was not interesting....The regular exhibition of great local historic interest is very good and interesting ! Friendly museum staff and nice cafe.As it was late evening (it was dark) and november i did not visit the outdoor museum this time, but Jamtli is known for interesting exhibitions and happenings all summer, well worth visiting !It is also a nice place to visit during chrismas-time.....
I visited Jamtli in June when the outside exhibits ("Historielandet" and the old shops) hadn't opened for the summer season. But the museum was still informative and you will learn a lot about life in the old days (10-12th century). Once you've paid for your ticket and approach the beginning of the exhibition, you will encounter a friendly looking Storsjö monster in whose tummy you can slide down to the exhibition. I didn't try this since I'm too big, tall and old!Don't forget to visit the museum shop and the café. :-)
We stayed on the island of Froson last week and visited Jamtli during our visit. I have rated this as very good simply because all the old buildings are not open during the winter opening times. One can still walk round them though and they are still interesting even though they are shut up. The museum inside is excellent and there are some amazing and unique exhibits on show. There was an extremely frustrating and annoying aspect with the audio guides, however. Potentially, the audio guide system is excellent and the commentary is operated by pointing the sensor on the guide at a sensor on the numerous displays, whereupon, theoretically, the commentary is played through the headphones. MMMMM ! All well and good if they were all working but, unfortunately, I would estimate less than 25% were actually working ! After visiting the indoor museum we went to the café before venturing outside. We have mixed feelings about the café though. My wife is Swedish and, as I do not speak Swedish, asked the woman serving if they had English Breakfast Tea. The woman gesticulated to a wooden box containing numerous tea bags and indicated that they did have English Breakfast tea. That was not, however, the case. (Pardon the pun which was unintentional). I sifted through the box and found numerous types of bags containing a wide array of tea bags, but no English Breakfast Tea. I opted for a beer instead as I do not drink coffee. The woman then went over to the tea bag case and patted each individual bag down and seemed to have taken umbrage that I had left a few bags one or two millimetres proud of the rest ! We then consumed our food and drink and they were very good quality and good value compared to normal Swedish prices. After consuming we arose to leave. The woman was looking in our direction as we left and my wife politely said, "Thank you", as we passed her. But the woman gave my wife a patronising look as we passed her and, very rudely, looked down at us and did not reply but followed us with her eyes as we walked from the café. A most peculiar attitude to display to paying customers. Her attitude was a sharp contrast to the ladies at the admission desk who were so polite, friendly and helpful when we entered the museum. One final point was that upon entering we were told the animal section would be open for feeding at 3pm. We happened to coincide at a few minutes past 3 and it was not open despite a sign on the door saying it would be open from 3 - 4. We walked down a little further and returned 15 minutes later and it still was not open. It did not matter too much to us but I feel that if a family with children had been visiting and were expecting it to be open the children would be pretty disappointed.
The walks through the centuries. All the nice old buildings. The view over Storsjön. Old memories come back.
I found the museum to very interesting. My grandfather was from Ostersund and my family showed me the museum. Children loved to show me the exhibits.
, ...but not that interesting for a child aged 9. I loved the exhibit downstairs, and the animals.
Excellent presentation of Swedish/Jämtish culture. Interesting both for children and adults. High quality all the way. Spend the whole day there!
