A great job have been done creating the dolls within the museum and the way the presentation is done using headphones and a portable unit. Definitely a must see when visiting Gävle.
The best is to buy ticket for ghoust tour when you do, for the price you also can come back to see the museum the next two days. The tour is between 6 and 8 and it is great. Actors are really scary. Perfect make up and acting. You get scared when not expected. Very, very well done. Worth the money. Child 40 kr , adult 80 kr. We came back the next day with my 10 year old. And it was educating and sad. You can take the headphones in English.
At first glance I thought that I'm going to see a great and impressive history about this place but it turned out that half of the museum was transformed into gov offices. And only a small portion was remaining for the museum to exhibit. However the small tour didn't take more than 15 mins to see the whole museum. The staff were vary vary friendly which is a big PLUS.
Two buildings to visit, the holding area for prisoners and the cells themselves, great history for all ages, being english you are given headphones telling you the stories of the prisoners, very informative
Take the time to see this place. We enjoyed the museum very much and it is easy to get around. Lots of interesting history and fun to compare to what we have in the US.
A whirlwind history of prison life from the 18th century on, all inside a former prison. In the first section, you get a sense of the claustrophobic conditions of those times. The English language audio-guide, included with admission, is informative. However, much of the exhibit signage is in Swedish. Understandable, seeing as how we're in Sweden, but you miss out on a lot if you don't speak the language.
Visited the Museum with my son, we had a good few hours wandering the modern and old jails. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We had a very informative tour. Well worth the look, interesting and entertaining.
Interesting. Worth visit. It takes you through history of penal system in Sweden.
First time there with classmates, the person who guide us was so nice and give us good information about the place and the story behind it. Nice for those who never been in prison museum before so you can learn something new. Right when I get inside I can feel "something", scarry but so informative :)
17th centuary prison with fascinating storys of the prisonsystem of those days.
