The facility was very well organized, since I am not a big fan of aero planes it was not all that exciting
Had a great time at the museum! Really enjoyed it! :) All exhibitions are described in both, Swedish and English which is great if you don't know Swedish :) However, information booklets are available in different languages than Swedish and English if you ask at the reception. The museum has very friendly staff - all speak English :)
I have always been interested in aircraft, but going to the Swedish Air Force Museum probably sealed the deal. It has mostly military aircraft, but also other small airplanes. It has a simulator, as well as a "toy" simulator. The building itself is absolutely amazing, and there is SO much to see! It is great to go for learning, or just for fun, and I can immagine it would be great to go with the family.
The exhibit of the SwAF DC-3 shot down by the Soviets during the Cold War is incredible. A must see.
This is a Sweden-unique experience - If/when you're close to Linköping do not miss it! The exhibit of the DC3 lost in the Baltic is especially good.
You can understand why this is part of the National Swedish Museums of Military History. It has an excellent selection of exhibits and with information in English as well you know what you're looking at. The Swedish Military Aviation hanger has a wide range of aircraft, well laid out and with several I've never seen before which is always a bonus. The Cold War hanger is a clever & informative mix of aircraft and displays spread over various decades making it far more than just another hanger.Don't miss the DC-3 display on the lower ground floor, I don't think I've ever seen such a well presented story of a flying incident. There is also a reference library & several aircraft outside but we were short on time so didn't have a look at either of these. The cafe on site served hot food up to mid afternoon and then various sandwiches, drinks, cakes, etc. which was perfect for a mid afternoon top-up.
My expectations was to look at planes but the place was much more than that. You could do the army experience that many boys had called lumpen her in Sweden. Also on the upper plan you had flight simulators, airport control operator game, radar surveillance drill and much more. There was also a lot about Swedish war history and the lower floor had the story and the plane about the DC-3 that Russia shoot down in the earlier fifties. We had a nice time walking around and reading for a few hours
This is a really great museum. They have lots of interesting exhibitions, I could easily spend an entire day here (and I'm no airforce fanatic!). The museum caters for children extremely well, there are lots of fun and interesting things for kids to enjoy, experience and learn. Simulators, buttons, blinking things, airplanes, things to ride in and things to play with. Our four year old loves it here so we've been here twice. Definitely worth a visit.
Great museum with nice collection on the Swedish Air Force. Good lay out and all text in English too. About 20 mins by Car from the airport. Impressive basement exhibition on a DC-3 show down in 1952 and later recovered from the seabed.
IF you are in to airplanes this is the place to visit!! Swedish airforce history, Saab aircraft history and alot more.
