I know this museum as a child, worth visiting, has been renovated and brought to acceptable standards for a Constanta city, plus you have the entire history navy in front of you.
If you are on the seaside, sunbathing is the main attraction. But if the weather is not the best for going to the beach, visiting the Romanian Navy Museum is the number one alternative you should have in mind. All you can learn about the Navy is there - from the vessels to the weapons and uniforms, lighthouses and navigation maps. The kids will be thrilled and adults will certainly find out something new. Even if you are not passionate about the subject, the amount of novelty information you can get (either by reading the labels or asking a guide) is tremendous. The courtyard was almost empty when we visited, but we were told some 200 exhibits were sent out for restoration. I hope they will re-arrange it once the pieces are back because the potential is huge (big propellers, engines and guns, life-size military ships in a water pool) and the outdoor can become as a big of an attraction as the exhibits inside.
I have been here before, about 15 years ago with my father. Now i can see that the technology is evolving. Plasma LED screens with documentaries, and surround sound systems are pleasently adding value to the original museum. I especially liked the display of vessels in the yard of the museum, and the signal flag display. I`m also a fan of artilery weapons and old guns.Every guy or father must visit this place !
nice interesting museum with a lot of an ancient or old boats, pieces of ships and lovely paintings on the walls
Not only was this attraction hard to find, in a building site and CLOSED when we finally got there (Monday?) but the entireold city of Constanta was awful! Only called in from a cruise ship on a half day visit, but if this is in any way representative of Romania, then I'd avoid it! (I believe Bucharest & Transylvania are beautiful)The modern city centre marginally better.... but the Naval Museum looked permanently shut!
A pretty good run through of Romania's maritime history, and lots of nice models of ships, locks on the Danube etc. There are gun turrets, torpedoes and things outside.
This museum presents the history of the military and commercial navy in this region from the boat carved into a tree trunk up to today's modern ships.I really loved the models of the medieval ships , the details are amazing. In the courtyard the museum displays a few small ships , engines and different weapons used on military ships This is a museum that men will probably love more then women
