For a mere 7.5 lei you can see some amazingly well-preserved artifacts taken from 5 or 6 different area sites. There are explanations in English at some exhibits, French or German at others, Romanian at all. If you can't actually get TO Argamum or Histria, this is the next best thing. Next door, exhibits rotate. Through January 2015, see the exhibit "Light and Omen"--ritual and spirituality and light and candles and making light through history. While your up there, catch the view from the Monument--you can walk up the road from the Museum and avoid most of the stairs. Best at sunset.

Could not believe we were the only people visiting this museum on a lovely Saturday. It is an amazing, extremely comprehensive, and clearly set out presentation of the history of the Tulcea region. The English text was very much appreciated.

Museum of History and Archaeology is located in Independence Monument Park, on the hill were former ancient fortress Aegyssus once existed . In the exhibition are restored into a modern vision aspects of economic history, cultural, religious, political and military within Danube Delta region from antiquity until XIX century . The "Treasure North Dobrogea" permanent exhibition opened in 2007, presents thematically, in a chronological sequence, exceptional pieces owned by the museum : monetary treasures, ornaments of gold and silver clothing, accessories, religious objects and old books. One of the monetary treasures that can be seen in the museum was discovered near the village were my grandparents live :)

Dobrugea is an original mixture of different minorities who lived here for a long time together.
