Neat little harbour, I have visited before but the tea room was closed so really quiet. Poster says Game of Thrones was filmed here. Best to visit in the summer.
The day we went it was very windy and the waves were awesome, beautiful place. We picked a great day to go.The cafe wasn't brilliant & had a strange smell, but we didn't go for that just the views.
Ballintoy is a tiny little village on the coastal route between Bayycastle and Portrush on the famous Antrim coast road. The village itself is really not so impressive but to get to the harbour - well signposted - you take a serpetine narrow road down the cliff by car and end up at the small harbour itself. The harbour is great for swimming and safe for children though mind you the water is never warm in the Atlantic even in July or August. A recent addition is a cottage-style little cafe at the harbour offering snacks and beverages. If you have more time you can walk from the harbour along the coats to White Part Bay, for me one of the most impressive beaches in Northenr Ireland. When I was younger there were even wild horses to be found in this surroudnign area. CAREFUL: WHite Park Bay is not advised for swimming on account of the dangerous and powerful currents in this area of the North Irish Sea where it meets the Atlantic. So no matter how tempting on a summer day do not swim here. Continue along the coast by car towards Portrush or Portstewart when the beaches are outstanding and very safe.
Worth a detour off the main coast road. You pass a beautiful white church and bend down to a little port. Some of 'Game of Thrones' was filmed here. There is a cafe and parking. The place is quaint and charming.
Loved the harbour. Beautiful, tranquil and scenic. Loved walking around. My partner wanted to see it because he's a Game of Thrones fan. I never watch it. Both impressed along with our daughter.
This is a nice peaceful place to stop and get out to stretch your legs. The coast is pretty and peaceful. The road down to the harbor gets very narrow so go slow and watch out for other cars and pedestrians.
A lot of the tourist stops along the northern causeway can get expensive with entrance fees. This was a nice stop to sit and enjoy the waves crashing over the rocks and snap some photos.
Love this little harbour, from the little white church with the ancient graveyard down to the waters edge where you can get a hearty meal in the little cafe. The wonderful scenery is obviously the reason the producers of game of thrones used this area for filming
We own a static caravan just around the coast in Portrush. Can't keep away from Ballintoy, Fantastic place , fantastic people.Great views, the cafe is lovely.
As a Game of Thrones watcher, this was so interesting to me as i had the opportunity to see were parts of the show were filmed. I also found the history of the place fascinating too. Would highly recommend a visit.
My friend is local to here so knows it well. We would never have found it otherwise. Although there isn't a great deal there it's definitely worth a visit especially if you're a game of thrones fan as parts are filmed in the harbour. The little cafe is quirky and the caves worth a look. I've been to the area many times but didn't know about this! I feel like I've missed out!!
Ballintoy harbour is a must visit if you are in the area simple pleasures the sea rushing in over the rocks is stunning a simply beautifull natural experience you wont be disappointed
I just love this little harbour. The first thing you will see is the little white church at the entrance with an old graveyard. I usually stop of here and have a stroll around the stones, love old grave yards. Then there is the turning twisting drive down. There is a beautiful little beach and lovely walks and to top it all of the quaintest little place to stop off for something to eat and drink at very reasonable prices. They actually filmed Game of Thrones at this site, and you can see why, just beautiful
Quiet and really beautiful place to visit. The place we were completely alone :). Visited at late October.
This harbor gets 5 stars from me as I am a Game of Thrones fan and they have done some filming in this harbour. There is actually a large plaque depicting a scene from the series. The harbour itself is very picturesque with lovely views.
