going on a quiet day at the beginning of March we had a personal tour. The guide was knowledgeable, and the tasting at the end included all 4 currently available single malts.
Enjoyed the tour very interesting good tasting at the end spent an hours tasting I left a little tipsy so all in all good day then !
good food, lovely scones and cakes, they run a loyalty card for coffees. ideal place to meet friends for a chat. Out from the centre of Elgin so you really need a car to get there but well worth a visit. good prices too. Didn't do the distillery visit just visited the shop and cafe and i will difinitely be back
This is a must see attraction in Elgin. The hour long tour is incredibly informative and lets you see the workings of a distillery. The tasting session at the end makes your £5 admission worthwhile, as we sampled 5 drams, even some special edition bottles.
Visited the Distillery while staying on holiday in Lossimouth so we got the bus into Elgin and walked to the Distillery which is good. We had a great tour which was very interesting and for us novices whiskey drinkers explained the whole process. We really enjoyed the tour and the tasting after and would recommend this tour to anyone who is in the area or on part of the whiskey trail.
I've been on a number of distillery tours but this afternoon's tour of Glen Moray was easily the very best I've experienced. Our guide was Liam and he was an absolute credit to Glen Moray, very well informed and welcoming with a lovely sense of humour. Afterwards there was a great selection of classy malts to choose from for the post-tour dram. A wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon Very highly recommended.
Another excellent visit to the Glen Moray coffee shop.2x fruit scones and a large pot of tea for £5 - can't go wrong! The Glen Moray jam makes an excellent accompaniment to the nice fresh scones, and there was at least 5 cups of tea in the pot.Add to this the chance for a wee nip of Glen Moray to wash it down with, and all is right in the world!
Despite flooding in Elgin today, the distillery was surprisingly dry and ready for tours at 9:30am. Glen Moray distillery is a great place to visit, especially for those based in Elgin or those passing through who may not have the time to venture further up the Spey Valley for some of the more famous or widely distributed whisky distilleries. This was my second time taking the tour with visiting guests and the experience was better this time than an already top-notch first visit. Ieva patiently answered our questions and led us around the distillery detailing the process of distillation and the particulars to Glen Moray. Willie the Mash Man and George the Still Man also took time from their important duties to give us a detailed description and illustration of their areas of expertise as well as sharing humourous or insightful anecdotes that have occurred during their years in the whisky industry. When I first moved to Elgin, I was told over and over by many different people that the tour at Glen Moray is one of the best in the area. Having been to over 20 different distilleries throughout Scotland, I can say with confidence that this evaluation is certainly true. Some tours usher you through as if you were in a sausage factory--focus being continuous output of customers and getting you into the gift shop. Others have a more personal touch proceeding at the pace of the group and tailoring the experience to suit the particular individuals on the tour. Glen Moray belongs to the latter group. Considering the time spent and the amount and variety of whiskies we were given to taste, I feel we received great value for the modest cost. Thanks Glen Moray for a great morning! Highly recommended.
It is "handy" to be more than one to make tasting. Five persons can choose five different types, pass the glasses and then have a lot more tasting to do, than have one single glass. This opinion is colored by a "life" (from 1963 till d.d.) in the scouts. We were walked thorugh the plant with a very good guide who understood both the making, and the value of the work. Amazing to "re-sniff" at the "wørter". In the store house we were invited to sniff at the whisky on the casks. The whisky smelled differently according to the former use of the casks. Sherry gives its flavour, bourbon whiskey gives it etc. That was a very good experience. To all of you: yes, come and visit, here, or another distillery. It might "rock" you.
Light lunch with family including young family members @ Glen Moray distillery cafe . Nice little menu, with nice choices, including daily fresh soup menu! Glen moray smoked salmon platter with cheeses and chutney excellent, as were soups!Meringues, raspberries and Glen Moray ice cream, tip top! Would highly recommend for a light lunch! Service from servers very good too!
We came across this distillery by chance and decided to take a tour. Our tour guide Liam was giving us a tailored tour and then alowed us to taste some drams of Glen Moray. Despite that we are more attracted to the Islay style, smokey whiskies, this is not a bad one. And since a ne peated version of Glen Moray will come out in the beginning of 2015, we have something to look forward to!
Opening hours for the cafe are 0900 to whatever, Arrived 0915 to find the waitress hoovering around the tables. The menu was quite extensive but when scones were ordered we were told they wouldn't be ready until 1000 as the ovens take time to heat up and the soup had to be made! Why open at 0900 if you cannot deliver what's on the menu.
I have been around 20 or so distilleries and this was one of the best tours I have been on. The distillery has a splendid Visitor Centre with an excellent cafe and shop. The distillery itself is very well presented and there is plenty to see for the first-time visitor and for distillery nuts. The guide (Liam) certainly knew his stuff and he put everything across in a very entertaining way. The tour is a bargain at just £4, and Liam gave generous servings of Classic, 12YO, 16YO and the Chardonnay-finished. What an absolute bargain! This is a top-notch distillery and a top-notch visitor attraction. Well done, Glen Moray, you put some of your neighbours in the shade.
Another interesting distillery tour. The girl doing the tour was very nice and knew her stuff. She took us through the process of whisky making and was able to answer all questions surrounding the process. The shop and cafe area is quite small but really nice. The tour was only £4 and includes a souvenir wristband and whisky tasting at the end. Our guide also let us try some of their new liquor, which was amazing! I can't believe I lived in Elgin for so long and have only just visited whilst up here on holiday!
Travelling with my wife and 2 other couples. Very welcoming distillery. They have a nice café area outside and they have great café. The tour was very instructive and funny. Our guide was Liam. He was very helpful. The site is very nice, we took great pictures. We learned a lot on the whisky making. Awesome tour, worth it for 4 pounds, including the tasting. They also have a nice shop with great selection of products.
