A warming spring day do went to the park for a walk. Never been before and it was very pleasant and clean. Nice to see the trees budding into life and the play area looked fab.
This park got something for everyone. The flowers are amazing and they change depending of season. My 7 year old daughter love this park, especially the playground! There are often activities in the park like the Scottish festival in June etc. There is also a nice café who serves light meals to a good price! There are two museums in the park and the tourist information in the free one. There is also a fish pound. You can spend day after day in the park and still found something new to see! Have to admit castle park is one of the reasons I stay in Colchester.
The castle itself is striking with its yellow glow in the sunlight, the park is beautiful, especially when we visited earlier this week as spring was definitely springing. The garden was well kept, the park was full of squirrels, the pond was full of beautiful fish, a school trip of students were sketching the castle and toddler and parents were playing on the park as elderly couples watched from the benches at the top of the hill. It was a perfect afternoon in a peaceful and beautiful park in Colchester town centre.
It is a great day out when the weather is grey.. Always nice fun for the children as you always have great events and children enjoy learning while playing. Great fun!
Plenty to do and see in the park !. Large children's play area , suitable for all age groups , and it's free !. Walk round the outside off castle and marvel how unusual it is . Look down from their and see the formal flower beds below with seats around .This area always looks beautiful once the summer bedding comes out .It is more quiet and secluded and good for reading.Near to the front of the castle and Hollytrees Museum there is a sunken area with a pond with koi-carp ,just been cleaned and looking wonderful. Plenty of benches ideal for a picnic children love watching the fish .There is another quiet area to the other side of Hollytrees with benches and formal planting central to the area with more exotic plants. All the areas I have mentioned is called upper castle park. Also here is were tea , food and ice creams are sold ,with large open space with trees, grass, benches and Band-stand (please check summer free entertainment). Walk forward and you get a view of Lower Castle Park with the Roman wall. In lower castle park is the boating lake ,toilets ,large open grass space to play ball games ,river flowing by and grass bowls area with it's thatched roof .Around the edges of the park are memorial , commemorative and special artistic flower displays. There are throughout the year many special events going on.
Castle Park Colchester is nice and peaceful. The grounds are well kept and are very scenic. In the Castle there is so much history and interesting things to do and look at. The tours are great too especially for kids. The grounds are perfect for a picnic! It makes a nice, cheap day out.
I have had lots of fun here. Plenty of space, lots to do. The food festivals in the summer are a must. I love getting a group of people to play rounders or football. Lots of apparatus for the kids to use, in the summer its fun to rent a little boat and paddle in the lake. Lots of shops selling refreshments. A nice pleasant cheap day out, I would recommend a picnic here in the summer! It's a shame that there is limited parking but it is in the town centre!
Castle Park Just off the high Street in Colchester Is an amazing Park has everthing for all ages. Boating lake, Play area for Children, Cafe, and a Castle that's filled with History and is worth a visit. The Gardens are Beautiful and just beside the front of the Castle. The gardeners do a Three Dimensional bedding Display in Flowers worth a visit. Over a million People visit the park each year. Lots going on in the summer with music on the bandstand, food festivals,Concerts.
The jewel of Colchester and the best thing in the town. Unspoilt views and wonderfull flower displays throughout the year. The spring bulbs are a joy to behold
This has to be one of the best parks in the country, amazing floral displays and a great setting. Really beautiful, especially in Summer!
Haven't seen the new displays in the Castle yet but the gardens are always beautiful and ther is a good play area for children as well as the boating lake. lots going on in the summer with music on the bandstand, food festivals etc. This is one of the best fearures of Colchester
With the castle the park provides a good place to spend a few hours for grown ups and children to relax and see some history back to Roman times
My family and I visit Colchester Park quite regularly. There is a good playground for the kids with slides, climbing games and also a newer addition is a wooden pirate ship surrounded by sand. There are lots of places for parents to sit and keep their eye on the children.Gardens are attractive and well- laid out, especially in Summer. There is also a quiet area with a fish pond to sit and reflect. The latest addition is gym equipment for all to use!
Good displays in the Castle and Roman remains, great shame that there are no concessions for locals or older visitors.
Just a lovely place to enjoy on your own or with family, gorgeous colours in the flowers and trees, lots of squirrels to spot, large play area and massive green space for ball games. Nice café with a wide selection of food or even the shop if you just fancy a snack
