This square is unique. It's old and you can feel that. You see history in every rock, every wall, every door. You have some caffes/bars that you can spend some time outside admiring that!
This place is the best square in Guimarães's old town. You have history, sculptures, architecture and restaurants, what more do you want?
We have traveled throughout Europe and although not large this square is the most atmospheric and romantic of any we have ever seen. What a lovely place for a coffee or a glass of wine.
Very lively in the evenings and lovely buildings around in the old town. Worth a visit and worth having a cappuccino outside one of the cafes whilst taking in the sights.
...all the buildings are covered in little white lights and it is beautiful. It is also lovely in the day and a good beginning to enter the old town and explore.
Charming, pretty, full of life and lots of reasonably priced cafes and restaurants. Especially pleasant in the evening.
Very well preserved medieval square locatted in the historic center, with several monuments nearby.Sometimes have evening shows and still has excellent restaurants. The ideal place to spend an unforrgettable hot summer evening
This was one of several large squares or largos with tables to stop and have a drink or some food while imagining what it would have been like teeming with people in medieval times. So many photo opportunities and spotless . Very clean and all the buildings are so well maintained. It seemed like a place the wealthy chose to go.
We visited on a Saturday afternoon/evening. We agree with all the comments about this town. While enjoying a cool drink in the old centre, we were treated to a wedding celebration in the Church. What was truly amazing was how the community gathered to cheer as the bride & groom exited the Church.
Oliveira Square, or simply "Largo da Oliveira" in the Portuguese language, is one of the main squares at the Historical Center of Guimarães: a site recognized by Unesco as a World Heritage. I don't need to say much more! It is beautiful and surrounded by a group of valuable historical constructions. Stroll lazily around the Square, visit the Church of Our Lady of the Oliveira ("Oliveira" means the olive tree), enjoy the traditional residences with their balconies and beautiful wooden doors and windows and make a few photos at the gothic monument of "Padrão do Salado". All dating from the 17th Century! And one last remark: sit on one of the many cafés, taste the Port Wine and just relax. Life is beautiful and at Guimarães it is simply divine. Enjoy!
The square is eally the heart of old Guimarães, and it is beautifully preserved, with a very interesting lighting at night. Must be great to be there in the long summer evenings/nights
Popular square in the historic center of Guimarães. It's frequented almost only by locals so prices are low. Visit by night to see the square romantically lit.
One of the main squares in Guimaraes. Lots of cafes, boutiques and beautiful buildings. If you go to Guimaraes, you must walk through here and take in the sights.
Takes you back in time! So pretty to walk through the cobble steps and enjoy all the shops, cafes and bistros that are in the square. It's beautiful.
It is the most important and popular square in Guimarães. Take a seat and enjoy the place, having a drink at sunset or at night. Simply...unforgetable!"
