used as a gataway for King Carlos and his wife Maria Luisa of Parma this is truly a doll house hunting pavillion decorated in french style. surrounded by almost 500.000 sq meters of parks, waterfalls and gardens, highlights even more the beauty of the El Escorial area. One can see the Monastery from afar which makes it a wonderful photo op. would not pass it. If you walk from the train station you may go up to the El Escorial by walking throught the park and visit the Casita del Principe first. only advice is: take a full day to enjoy the sights. you wont regret it
This built as a summer getaway home by the Infante Gabriel in 1771 and should be included as part of your visit to El Escorial. . Once you are done in the monastery, walk down the hill back towards the station & within 5 minutes you will see the entrance on the right. There are no ticket sales on site - buy it beforehand at the monastery. The building itself is pretty small and disappointingly did not include many personal artifacts. That said, the gardens are magnificent and a great place to rest & relax before the journey home
A small day palace with fine decorations including some unique wax miniature tableux. See my review of El Escorial for more info.
Beautiful gardens! Took us a while to find it and then some time to find the guide. All it is is the bungalow of the price, that to modernized recently, but if you have time to spend at the gardens surrounding it, it is worth a visit.
Aranjuez is an small village close to Madrid (45km). It is full of trees with a big river... many palaces from old spanish kings.
This 18th century palace was a residence of the Spanish Royal family and was built by a prince, hence its name, as a place to rest and entertain himself. Although built by the same architect that designed the Prado Museum, it's not a particularly attractive building and the interiors aren't fabulous either. It's somewhat ignored by tourists and even by locals, but its location, the surroundings and its Italian-stye gardens make it a worthwhile stop for tourists and passers-by. The palace is located in a small promontory into the woods near the Royal Seat of San Lorenzo De El Escorial. I would recommend a visit to it if you want to find some peace, make some good shots, or simply have a walk in a beautiful garden after visiting the El Escorial.
This is a house built by a Spanish prince overlooking the monastery at El Escorial. The house is not much to write home about, but the gardens are one of my favourite places on earth, and you can tour the gardens for free. Thousands of visitors go to El Escorial every day, but few go to La Casita. It is worth the extra walk or drive to go.
