We stayed in Oakmont C a two bedroom unit. A little more sprucing up would make it a bit more enjoyable, don't get me wrong as far as timeshares go this one had all the necessities but something about it looked depressed. Everything you could want in the kitchen, loft accessible by a spiral staircase has two twin size beds with bathroom, no shower, only a tub as this has an A frame roof so ceilings are low on the sides up there. Back down, a large fireplace but stated no wood burning just those fake logs allowed, don't quite understand that but we do plan to buy one to try it out, another bedroom with a queen bed and a full bath. Washer and dryer in the unit and updated t.v's . Nice deck with seating, charcoal grill nearby. Area has many waterfalls and hiking trails. Would be beautiful in Autumn with the mountains surrounding you. Looks like a nice golf course on site. Tennis, workout room and pool, jacuzzi and sauna, as well as a volley ball and basket ball area. Fishing on site with no license needed. Beautiful waterfall to walk to. Great internet and free long distance as there is no cell service. Nice place to get away.

Definitely off-season stay, but nice. Hadn't been to Dillard so looking around the town was fun. Neat stores. GREAT concrete place on the main drag and cool metal sculpture makers across the street. Goats on the Roof was pretty cool too.

Decorated for Halloween and fall season. Excellent job. the local residents must have put in a lot of time and effort to create unique and eye-catching images, painting on hay bales, scarecrows adn flowers.

Located on the road between Dillard GA and Highlands NC is a beautiful mountain golf course. This semi-private course was sixty-five dollars each to play and included cart and range ball. The course was in perfect condition and the day was everything you could ask for. I will be back.

This area has never disappointed my husband and I, nor our friends that showed us this lovely part of the smoky mountains off the blue ridge. You can relax and play as much as your heart and body desires. Golfing, swimming, fishing, hiking, and so much more. The leaves are so beautiful here. I thought the color was much nicer here than in the Talking Rock or Blue Ridge this year. I am drawn to the church bells ringing in the valley.

My wife and I stayed here Oct 5th-12th. The area is beautiful, you drive 5 minutes down the mountain and are in Dillard with a couple of restaurants and a Piggly Wiggly. We stayed in the Oakmont section through RCI timeshares and it was very accommodating. The place was clean, offered full kitchen, washer and dryer, and television. The room had Wifi that worked great and a phone with free local and long distance calling which was perfect because there is no cell service at the resort. We would call and make reservations using the phone there. Once you leave the resort and go down the mountain you have cell service again so it isn't a huge issue. The bottom line is that you come to the mountains in October for the views. The mountains are glorious and no picture will do them or the waterfalls in the area any justice. During our stay there the leaves started green and turned gold, red, and yellow. The higher the elevation the quicker the leaves change so as you leave the resort you will notice going down the mountain that the leaves go back to green. We loved our stay here and the check-in/check-out process was very simple and the staff was accommodating and very clear throughout the entire process. We checked in late and simply had to enter a code to a box at the RCI-Check-In building to obtain a map of the property and a key to our room. The grounds are beautiful and if you so choose can golf or eat at the newly opened country club. There is an onsite waterfall that is at least a 100 foot with a 2 mile hike alongside the water coming down. My wife and I used our resort as base camp to explore other cities in the area such as highlands, and Asheville, NC. Highlands offers lots of small shops and fine dining. Asheville has a very neat downtown with lots of high end restaurants as well as the famous Biltmore estate. I would recommend going to whiteside mountain near Highlands, as well as Tallulah Gorge State Park. The second deepest gorge in the U.S. only beaten by the Grand Canyon. The only downside of staying here is that you will drive a lot, but if you go during the right time that only allows you more time to see the beautiful scenery that this area is known for.If you need a grocery store Franklin and Clayton both have Ingles(like a publix). If you arrive late and need dinner I would suggest the mexican restaurant in Dillard, it is past the turn to the resort on the left. There are outlet malls in Commerce, GA about an hour or so away. Please note Sky Valley is a city and you should check the weather to sky valley before planning your trip because it is colder up on the mountain than in the city of Dillard at the bottom of the mountain. There are lots of places to go hiking in the area, Black Rock Mountain State Park is very close and has breathtaking views and hiking trails available. We really enjoyed Bella's Junction Cafe's breakfast one morning and they were very friendly. Our favorite meal of the entire trip was at Curate in Asheville and it was affordable tapas, we sat at the bar and watched the chefs create everything they offered. We never went to downtown Franklin or Helen so I can't comment on those but the Whistlestop Antique place bored us to death, it may be because we are from Alabama and have been to lots of quality antique stores before.I would recommend going to this resort and this area to anybody.

Wide open, challenging but fair, and lots of variations in the terrain. The condition of the fairways was excellent as well as the greens.

Stayed in time share apartment - middle floor in a 3 story. Loved the view and the apartment was very comfortable, well appointed and well maintained. It rained two days, which only added to the relaxation of sitting at the sliding glass door and simply enjoying the view and steady, soft rain. Only drawback was that the porch had not real cover - only the deck above, the boards of which did not provide much shelter since the rain water simply trickled down... it would have been nice to enjoy those rainy days from the porch instead of from inside. Nonetheless, excellent time and what a scenic place - clean, well laid-out with plenty to do (or great to relax and do nothing at all). Police are friendly and eager to provide directions or even to escort - the trail roads can be confusing and we needed help finding a relative. Will return - again and again!

We stayed here for a family reunion, with the different family units in either houses or condos. Those in the houses fared slightly better, though one house that was supposed to accommodate 16 and was occupied by 11 had towels for only 9....and the washing machine did NOT work. It took a few days for them to get any extra towels. Another family was in a condo that had no hot water--the hot water heater had been turned off and not turned back on before they checked in. Their landline phone for the unit did not work, and this is an area where cell phones simply don't function (some may view that as a nightmare, but it was quite relaxing). Our unit was ok--nothing to complain about except the bathroom mirror was sitting on the floor when we moved in and no one came to repair it, even though we called (and it should have been noted by housekeeping BEFORE we moved in)--my husband found some wire and fixed it so my in-laws could have a mirror in the bathroom. Roads to some of the units are steep, as are some of the driveways; BIG trucks may not be advisable here if you're in a unit with a steep driveway. One beautiful aspect of the site is a waterfall, a comfortable walk from the pool/tennis court area. The swimming pool is very nice, as is the hot tub (and it is HOT!), spa, and indoor hot tub. Check-in could be confusing for those of us expecting someone in the office to hand us a key--however, the office leaves the paperwork and key in a mailbox for anyone arriving after they have left the office (not sure exactly on their specific office hours), and a key drop is located by the office door for check-out (10 a.m.). Our unit and the ones for other family members had fully equipped kitchens, and those with houses had grills on the decks (our condo had two decks, one off the bedroom and one off the dining room). We don't golf, so I can't address the golf course, but the area is attractive and the grounds are well-maintained (watch the speed bumps and Officer Friendly who sits near the entrance watching for speeders). I wouldn't necessarily seek this location out again, and if we did, we would make arrangements with cousins to get a house (and pray for towels and working washing machine) and not a condo--we were NOT within walking distance of anyone in our family, and with elderly in-laws that meant driving everywhere. The two houses family had were comfortable, with plenty of seating (small couches, plenty of table space, tables/chairs on the decks). Sky Valley is the highest city in Georgia, and the closest grocery is in Dillard at the bottom of the mountain--we visited Piggly Wiggly several times. For more extensive shopping needs, go to Clayton where a Wal-Mart is located.

You don't want to miss out on going to the top of Georgia. Some of the best golf anywhere!, plus a great clubhouse where you can dine on some wonderful food, stay at one of their many vacation spots and make it a romantic weekend or a business trip. But just put Sky Valley Resort on your bucket list.

This is a great challenging golf course. On the front nine, you hear the chimes of the lovely church. A good value for this nice course.

My in-laws have a townhouse here so I don't know about the rentals, but the golf course is fabulous. I've played it around 20 times, (from both the white and gold tees) and regardless how I played that day, I can't wait to play again. It's always in great condition and we've always played quickly (sometimes tough to do at resort courses). Yesterday, the Fourth of July, we teed off at 2:10 and finished at 5:30! I know that this pace of play can't be guaranteed, but it sure was nice. I absolutely love the greens; quality shots hold they aren't crazy fast. Walkers are allowed, but it's tough. The course is hilly and there aren't any benches to rest if you have to wait on an tee box. The views are absolutely beautiful. Depending on where you're from, the greens fees can seem steep. We live in the Washington, DC Area and the rates are comparable to semi-private courses there. Sky Valley does offer twilight rates so that's when I play in order to make it more affordable. I'm looking forward to getting in a few more rounds when we return in October.

I have been going here my entire life. It is a beautiful area. The area is really remote, so be sure to stock up on food and alcohol before you get to Sky Valley. Check out Mud Creek Falls, the amazing waterfall that is kind of hidden (just ask and someone will direct you there). The area is close to lots of fun places for day trips like Helen, Franklin, Cherokee and the Biltmore Estate. Tallulah Gorge is also a really pretty place and the antique shops in Dillard are cute. If you want to eat out, Bella's pizza at the Mountain Junction store is good and the Cupboard Cafe in Dillard has good southern style food.

This resort was only a few miles out of Dillard. It is located at the Sky Valley Country Club grounds. This property was formerly the southernmost ski slopes in the US. The condos were converted to timeshares and the ski lodge and slopes closed in the 70's. Our condo was in the Oakmont section. This was on the highest hill on the property. We had a one bedroom condo with a nice LR , full kitchen, and separate Bedroom. The dining rm./ living room opened to a concrete patio with nice wrought iron furniture through two pairs of sliding glass doors. Trees blocked any view we might have had of the surrounding mountains. To be fair, there were other bigger units with big balconies that had impressive views. Yes the furnishings were older, but were well kept and of good quality. We enjoyed being here, even though wi- fi was not available in room and there was no cell signal in room. We could drive to the office and pick up Wi-Fi signal and had cell service here. The front desk lady was very nice and accommodating. The roadways are winding and up hill. Franklin, N.C. was about 15 miles, Cherokee 50 miles ,and Gatlinburg about 84 miles. A good base location for sightseeing.

We had a nice lofted unit overlooking the 18th hole of the golf course. The scenery was beautiful and we were within reasonable driving distance of several towns for my wife to shop. Several waterfalls nearby to see and plenty of good restaurants in the area...We would go back to Sky Valley for sure!!
