Madison is a beautiful little township that the locals are obviously very proud of. We visited Heritage Hall as part of the Rose Cottage tour package. The house is stunning, well preserved and our tour guide very informative. The tour was leisurely, plenty of time to ask questions and enjoy the ambiance....
Beautiful historical home, well-preserved and furnished. Lawn and gardens are well-maintained. well worth the visit.
This was an interesting tour, led by a lovely lady. It's nice that homes like this are preserved so that we can learn how people lived.
This is a nice historic home to see any time of year, but if you go at Christmas the decor is especially lovely
A very beautiful home in historic Madison. Full of history and for the price of the tour it was definitely a bargain, our tour guide was fun and loved to share stories of the owners of the home.
Wonderful architect. The tour guide was very knowledgable and interesting. The opulence of the families that had lived there was interesting. An educational and enjoyable visit.
From the diamond-etched messages on the window panes to the ghostly image on the fireplace hearth, Pat (our docent) conjured up real history with her story telling warmth.
While doing the self-guided walking tour with a map provided at the visitors center all you can think about is what must these beautiful homes look like on the inside. The Heritage house has the answer in a well done guided tour of the home. The guide had lots of interesting information about the home & furnishings. She even explained how the children would have lived to my seven year old nephew. Great value for the price. Its just $10 to tour three homes and is well worth it. Plenty of dining and shopping within walking distance of the old homes.
I love old houses so this was a real treat for me. Our guide was very informative and had lots of interesting bits of history to share with us. Heritage Hall was beautiful.
Of course, this is a graceful old house with an interesting history, and the docents do a wonderful job of explaining everything. It's well worth a visit if you're in Madison. One thing that sets this house apart from others is that it is reputed to have a ghost in the upper left room. There is a strange marking on the fireplace apron that they haven't been able to remove. It resurfaces whenever they've painted, and some believe it represents a woman with a baby in her arms. People have been known to refuse to enter the room because they've sensed something in there. It is quite a beautiful room, with an exquisite rose china chandelier. One could see why a ghost would want to stick around. As for encounters, yes, I believe there's some truth to the belief. There's a distinct chill in the room that is typical of a spectral presence. Good luck though. Not everybody can notice it.
If you are a History buff, you have to come to Madison, Ga! We are steeped in antebellum homes, historic cemeteries, tours of homes, etc. Heritage Hall is a wonderful place to start in your journey through our town!
Madison has so many historic homes, but precious few that are open to the public for viewing daily. Heritage Hall allows you to see how the Plantation class lived in their "Town Homes", traditionally built by husbands for their wives so they could come in from the farms and socialize and entertain in town. Madison's main draw is its historic architecture so I can't imagine anyone wanting to come to Madison and not wanting to see heritage Hall.
Get old southern home, tour was fun. easy to walk to, town was clean and friendly. Cars will stop to let you cross steet
Our docent obviously loved the house and revelled in sharing its stories. Our favorite was the unusual habit of the young ladies of the house to scratch names into the windowpanes with their engagement diamonds to make sure they were real! She pointed them out all up and down the house! It has the finest Victorian hair wreath I've ever seen.
Heritage Hall is an important stop if you're going to spend the day in Madison. It is within walking distance to the center of town and gives you an appreciation of what is around you as you walk about. it's a quick (~30 min) informative tour that you wouldn't regret for $5.
