This is clearly a ride for kids. The only exciting / fun part was the five seconds as the Duck splashed into the lake water. Otherwise, I was bored out of my mind. After driving amphibious trunks while in the infantry, I am spoiled. Kids, however, will have a blast!
Took the grandkids on this great ride at my favorite local Atlanta-area spot - Stone Mountain. Riders get good views of the park while on the ground and then some awesome views once the lake is entered. Children are allowed to pose with the driver at the helm, which is a lot of fun.
Fun and educational! The staff was fabulous. Very interactive. Beautiful scenery fun music and all around fun!
Do NOT skip this! Riding the Ducks was one of my favorite adventures at Stone Mountain. It was definitely worth the extra charge and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Not only is it fun, but the drivers are really entertaining, so it's like a comedy show mixed with watersports and adventure. You do need to be a kid at heart to have fun cause you'll receive a duck to wear around your neck and you'll be asked to blow on it at various times throughout the ride. It is hilarious. Trust me.To the people who say not to worry cause you won't get wet - they apparently did not sit in the very back seats. There are normal seats for 2 on both sides of the duck EXCEPT for the very back and it's just 1 seat per side. However, I do have to say that the driver warned us upfront that the ones in the back seat DO get splashed. So we had the opportunity to get off and wait for the next Duck, but I wasn't afraid of a little water. When the Duck first went into the lake, the water splashed up and over my seat, so I ended up with water down my back and shorts. But hey, it was hot that day, so it felt good!
The drivers will keep you laughing from beginning to end with high energy music and quacking. Don't worry you will not get wet. This is an extra charge but for sure worth it.
As part of our day at Stone Mountain, we decided to Ride the Ducks. Our driver was a man that resembled Santa and he played that fact up. When you enter the big truck that was used to transport troops from ocean to land and back to the ocean during World War II, you were given a Duck to place around your neck and to blow when you chose. As we pulled out, Santa would tell us to blow at this group of people. We would blow the duck sound to the music. We would scare people on the side of the road. It was all great fun. When we got to the water, he stopped and counted down and drove the vehicle directly into the water. We were sitting in the back seat and when we hit the water in the beginning it splashed up and hit us in the back. Santa warned us about this before and laughed after it happened. He played music throughout. Fun songs. Some about Georgia. At the end of course he had to play some Christmas music about Santa. While on the lake, he allowed children and anyone else that wanted to, to come up and drive the Duck.We then made our way back to the drop off point, blowing our ducks all the way at people and just having fun. I definitely recommend that you do this if you are at Stone Mountain.
We took the Duck ride with 4 other friends and 3 kids. Capt Phillip was soooo funny. He made the trip so interesting. We had a blast and I am 64 years old. The kids had a great time too. It was such a hot day and the boat ride helped us get through the day. Capt Phillip made the trip so memorable. When we got back to Ohio I realized I did not tip the captain and feel absolutely horrible as he deserves it. Sorry Captain. You were the best!!
My husband and I decided to "ride the ducks" on our last trip to Stone Mountain. From the beginning, everyone was really friendly and fun. While the seats themselves are not super comfortable if you are tall, the ride is still worth it. We sat near the back of the DUKW and our "captain" gave us a good soak when he splashed down into the lake. It was a lot of fun. This is geared more for the kiddos (they get a chance to drive the boat on the lake) but it really was fun for everyone. The quacker whistles we got were a lot of fun too...even after the ride was over. I only wish this was a longer experience. I would say it was worth the trip though!
My family added Ride the Duck to an adventure pass. Overall we had a great experience at Stone Mountain, but a few minutes after our Duck was in the water our captain received a call to turn back because there was thunder within 10 miles, which is understandable because of safety. I assumed that we would be compensated for the short ride. The ticket lady asked if we made it into the water, and I answered, "Yes". She said they would not issue a Bounce Back ticket if the Duck made it into the water. The ride probably would have been fun otherwise, but I'm not even sure what we missed. It's unreasonable to pay $36 for your family to ride only a partial ride. We should have been compensated in some way.
We were skeptical of doing this. But it was awesome. Our tour guide Sheila was spectacular. Simply spectacular. The way she went out of here to make the tour fun and special for kids and adults was awesome. Highly recommend you do this and ask for Sheila!
Riding the ducks is a great experience, our grandsom loved it. Our guide was the greatest and we had a great time.
Perhaps the most exciting part of the tour is the fact that you are riding in a piece of history, The guide was entertaining and made the trip fun , overall the ride is slow and if not for the entertaining guides would have been quite boring..
Enjoyed our experience on Ride the Ducks at Stone Mountain! The driver was entertaining and nicknamed our duck the rocking duck since he played music! Let the kids steer while in the water and had a great time enteracting with everyone! Great job to the driver!!
