My husband and I have just recently returned from our three hour wine tasting ride with Ron Izzo, owner of the Arizona Horseback Experience. I would urge anyone who likes horses and is travelling in the Tucson area to take a ride with this company. You will undoubtedly get a true taste of cowboy county. It's the real deal! The horses were responsive and obviously well cared for. Ron ensured 100 percent safety but still enabled us to get lost in the beauty of the open ranges, with views for miles and miles, We had delicious sandwiches and home made cookies, prepared by Ron's wife, Marge, followed with some unique local wine tasting. To top it off, the drive back to tucson with mountain views is spectacular. A must see!!
As an experienced rider I found this private 3 hour ride to be more than can be expected . Both Marge and Ron are wonderful hosts at their ranch that greet you with great hospitality . Great fior any level of rider with these seasoned horse people . Special to see the beautiful scenery and hear Ron a historian of the west talk about the area as it was in Cowboy times while riding through countryside untouched by time. Let's you imagination run wild . Not to be missed .
Two novice riders enjoyed a romp through gorgeous scenery. Valery was so patient and very friendly. We lamented not being able to do an overnight ride. Valery gave us such a wonderful memory to kickstart our celebration of retirement. Thank you for a dream come true.
Marge, Ron & Valerie were all very friendly when we arrived, the horses were calm and looked well cared for. We did the 3 hour horse back riding and wine tasting and it was a blast. Valerie was our guide and she was very informative, knowledgeable and personable. The ride was so enjoyable and relaxing as was the wine tasting...We also received a bottle of wine for each of us along with a wine glass What an awesome experience it was. If we ever get out there again we will absolutely go back again. We totally recommend anyone who wants a nice horse back riding experience go to Arizona Horseback Experience.
We did a 3 day, 2 night wilderness camping trip with Ron, and a 10 year old and a 65 year old. This was a real wilderness experience and it's very difficult to find this experience anywhere in Arizona. Most places are set up for busloads of tourists coming through and at best you get to ride to a pre-set up camp. On this trip, we road about 8 hours a day, set up camp, took down camp and then rode again to the next locaiton. My daughter loved the fact that she got to trot, canter and even gallop a lot! She is a pretty experienced rider and they really tailored the ride to what we were looking for. The food on the campout was great! The horses are spectacular and really well cared for. Ron was fairly quiet but overall a fine guide. Certainly safety was always the top concern. As per another reviewer here, we did get haggled about tipping which surprised us given the expense of the trip, and the guide was the owner of the ranch and not a hired staff member. However, i highly recommend this type of experience --especially for the day long or overnight trips. I woudl recommend 2 nights min if doing overnight.
Being a total novice and always wanting to try horse riding, we decided to book with Arizona Horseback Experience. We arrived a little nervous but there was no reason to be, Val our guide was fantastic, we managed to mount and dismount in a very short time. Then we were off, it was a brilliant afternoon one we will never forget. Riding up hills, down hills, straights, dried river beds. Chief was gentle and knew exactly what to do. A great ride and fantastic people - definitely would go again. Thank you.
My husband and I booked the ride and wine tasting experience. Our guide Valerie was delightful, our horses were terrific and the ride, weather and wine tasting we're awesome. A great time!
Nestled near the beautiful Coronado National Forest, Ron and Marge's well-run horse outfitter put together a wonderful 3-day trip into the Huachuca Mountains. The strong, well trained horses were a real pleasure. As was Ron (wrangler & owner), who also really knows how to cook. A great balance of outdoor adventure, caring for the horses, and of course learning to ride. Highly recommend for a true Arizona mountain experience via a horse.
This was a highlight of my business trip to Tucson! While on business we were lucky enough to get a couple days off and we found Arizona Horseback on the web and I am so glad we did! After the beautiful drive out to the ranch we were greeted by some excellent people. The owners are amazing folks and they make you feel at home. I grew up riding horses in Alberta, Canada so I can definitely comment that this is a very well run outfit. The horses are very well kept, well trained and they have lots of energy. Our guide was excellent and looked after our group well. It's definitely not a nose to tail ride and some of the territory was challenging but the views were amazing. Thanks so much to the owners for a fantastic time and thanks for squeezing us in on a very busy day. I recommend this place to anyone who loves to ride, this experience is what it's all about.Cheers from Canada!
The Izzos outfit is the best run operation of its type that I have experienced. They are careful to understand the level of the rider. Good quality stock is matched to the rider. The lead rider was knowledgeable of the area, friendly, safety conscious. The area that we got to ride through was stunningly beautiful. This was not a nose to tail ride. It was appropriately challenging for me. I highly recommend this outing at any length.
AZ Horseback Experience advertises that the ride is geared to the experience of the rider, and when providing the nonrefundable deposit for the reservation, you are even asked your level of experience and what type of horse you would like ride, i.e. frisky, calm, etc. BUT, when the ride takes place, everybody rides in single file behind the ever-so chatty trail guide for 2 hours without so much as trot or a canter. BORING. Not worth the money!!
And we had an amazing vacation! My family took a three hour ride through some amazing scenery. The horses were not your typical "get me back to the barn now" type of trail plodders. The owners took special care to tailor the horse to each rider's experience level and our guide, though relatively new, was fun and full of neat bits of information about the area and the horses. We road up and down sides of hills, trotted a bit, saw amazing vistas and had a fantastic time. We were even accompanied on our trek by Scottie, a funny, spunky trail dog who really was our "true" trail guide. :D I would highly recommend this ranch if you are looking for we'll taken care of animals, amazingly friendly people and a ride you will never forget.
My daughter and I booked a 3 hour ride. I felt like I was a real cowboy riding through the west! The owner was great. He was patient, very friendly, very knowledgable of the whole area, and looked out for our safety at all times. He made the whole experience memorable and I can't wait to go back for a full day ride.
It si a great experience!! The staff is wonderful and the ride is incredible. You start off at the house of the owners and go to an open range ranch area which is full of wildlife and western scenery. You go up hill and downhill through washes and hills, until you get to the winnery where you have lunch and taste the windes they have there to offer. You get a bottle of wine from the winnery for each rider and then they drive you back to the starting pont. We saw deer black angus cattle, the pet dog "Scotty" followed us all through the trail and our guide valery was just wonderful. defenetally recommend it to anyone, you don't need previous hoseback riding experience.
My wife and I went riding recently with Ron and Cat and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We were on a short visit from Florida and had made arrangements beforehand. Marge was great in setting us up with compatible horses (Barney and Chief) and after a quick safety briefing, equipment check, and prayer, we got started without any stress or hassles. The terrain and various trails were well thought out, and the views on the trails were scenic. Also, the guides were very friendly, helpful, and informative. My favorite part I think was when Ron brought out his harmonica. I closed my eyes and felt myself going back into time. The trip was well worth the cost and I would recommend it to anyone.
