While on vacation, we attended the Symphony's tribute to The Music of Queen. Who would have thought we would be rocking in our seats and the aisles. What impressed me the most was the fans of the symphony!! I have to say ..." Phoenix loves it's symphony"!Even though I have visited Benaroya Hall in Seattle for holiday events, I was more impressed by the Phoenix patrons of the symphony. I hope to see more variety in Seattles' Symphony offerings.
What fun. Hearing an excellent orchestra with guest conductor and singers/musician play the music of Queen. Clearly 1/3 of the people were first time to Symphony Hall. Great. Orchestra's like other cultural activities need to attract new audiences. This is a good job of doing so. Also, well managed and lovely venue. Parking was pretty easy too. We'll be at Zed Zeppelin in April. Good times.
I'm always looking for new things to do that don't break the bank. It's a great date night with the husband and my daughter and I have even done girls nights here. The symphony is really fantastic. Plus I always feel like I'm getting a little culture when I go :)
One of the best parts of the Christmas season is you can be a kid again and nobody seems to care. You can indulge yourself in things you like to do and not be considered selfish. On a recent visit to Phoenix my family and I treated ourselves to Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Ballet danced by Arizona Ballet with the music performed by the Phoenix Symphony. The music was exquisite and the dancing superb. The Symphony and Ballet Company are world-class and I am privileged to be close enough to enjoy them once or twice a year. The Phoenix Symphony is an excellent orchestra and during this performance it filled the music hall with all the joy and excitement that this holiday classic ballet has brought to children of all ages for many seasons. I must confess that as a ballet dad I have seen more Nutcracker ballets than I can possibly remember, but hands down this Arizona Ballet’s performance is one for the books and I will remember it for many years to come. Just as Christmas Cookies and Sugar Plum Sweets can put a smile on your face, so did the Phoenix Symphony and Arizona Ballet Company’s performance of The Nutcracker Ballet. It was good to be a kid again.
The Symphony Hall was easy to reach, comfortable in atmosphere and seating, and superb in acoustics. I heard four piano concertos there, and in only one was the soloist unable to adjust his sound to lead the orchestra (and that was his own fault). The other three revealed a perfect acoustical balance. During intermissions, the gift shop proved absolutely a joy for the musical guest, with items ranging from jewelry to mugs to clocks to toys, all modestly priced and of high quality. Next time I go to Phoenix, I will definitely return to this upscale and wonderful facility.
I went to this wonderful concert performed by the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra. They play classic and contemporary music. Also, there was a champagne toast, nice experience.
For the first time, the Phoenix Symphony offered at 4 p.m. performance on New Year's Eve. After a leisurely lunch, friends and I drove to the beautiful venue for my first experience with the symphony for New Year's Eve. The music was perfect for the occasion: fun, rousing, sing-along, through the ages and years, appropriate for the turning of an old year into a new one! At intermission, there was champagne for everyone (a nice touch). Since the later performance lets out at a time that coincides with some drivers having had too much of a nice touch, this was a perfect arrangement for my taste both for entertainment and safety. Jammies and watching the ball drop in New York from the comfort and safety of my own home made this a wonderful first experience with New Year's Eve and the Phoenix Symphony. I would recommend it highly and so appreciated seeing several families with youngsters and teens dressed beautifully for the symphony at this early performance. I do hope they repeat that option again next year and that you will partake of it.
The Texas Tenors did a three day engagement in Phoenix backed up by the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra. The singing was good, the symphony had a rich and full sound, the conductor was part of the show with witty mannerisms. The Boyz sang their hearts out and spent considerable time engaging the audience. For $30 it was a wonderful evening out. If you missed them, they will be back in this area again in the fall and winter.
Wen attended the Phoenix Symphony New Year's Eve presentation for the second year in a row while visiting over the holidays from Seattle. We've done the same in Seattle and it was very typical and epic. However the Phoenix Symphony has outdone itself with the last two year's shows doing Pop and Show Tunes, some classical music, rock and roll and many "audience participation" numbers (singing, clapping, etc.) The guest conductors have been awesome and very entertaining and the guest soprano has been very enjoyable for both shows. I wholeheartedly recommend this performance for anyone who wants to get their NY Eve off on the right foot. The free champagne toast at intermission is a bonus. And the show gets out in plenty of time to hit another venue for dinner and a party. Good job Phoenix Symphony!
We tend to enjoy the 'Pops" at the Symphony, everything from the James Bond themes to the Beatles classics, from Star Wars and movie themes to the Paul Simon collection. This time we were there to celebrate the magic of Harry Potter.
We are regular visitors, tending towards the "Pops" events (such as the James Bond themes, or in this case the Harry Potter movies). It is always a pleasurable experience and leaves us wanting more.
We saw the Nutcracker last night after years of not seeing it. It was so beautiful. The gorgeous and traditional music was perfect but the contemporary costumes and sets were out of this world. The children were adorable and each character smiled throughout the scenes. It could not have been more enjoyable. Congratulations to the Phoenix Symphony and Ballet!!
We saw this show at the Virginia G. Piper Theater at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. What a beautiful theater it is! What amazing musicians that give their hearts and souls to their performances! With that said, we were somewhat disappointed in the overall performance. It was not the full symphony, but a smaller group of them and strings only. Also, the performance was more operatic and choir oriented than musician oriented. We did not get the sense do being "blown away" because the dynamics one would expect were not there. I don't believe they were mic'd. It would have been so much more impressive had they been. With all due respect to the Phoenix Symphony, this performance was not for us. The building does, in fact, have a refreshment area called, Encore. My previous review said there were no refreshments, but that was just for the ASU big band event. There is also a gift shop with wonderfully unique gift ideas.
I am relatively new to the Phoenix area and had the opportunity to attend my first Phoenix Symphony concert for their Holidays Pops.Symphony Hall in downtown Phoenix was awesome. We sat in the orchestra level towards the rear and the sound was perfect and we still had a clear view of the stage. The orchestra was amazing. I've attended quite a few concerts in different cities and the Phoenix Symphony put on a great show. Can't wait to go to another of their concerts!
We've seen a few concerts here; for adults and for children. The events are always professionally done, Amazing staff and a great seat no matter where you sit. The kids love the snacks and hot chocolate!
