After a lunch stop at the Ariston I decided to walk across the street to check out the Litchfield Museum and Route 66 Welcome Center. It was worth the walk. The museum is mostly located in one room with a nice flow pattern as it tells the story of Litchfield and the portion of Route 66 that ran through and near Litchfield. It contains many panels of clippings and pictures of Litchfield. Display cases show off many artifacts that will be of interest to many visitors old enough to remember the 50s, 60s and 70s. The one that I really enjoyed was the Red Crown from atop a Standard Oil pump. Even visitors with no interest in Litchfield will enjoy the nostalgia brought to mind by the relics of days gone by. When you pull off the highway to eat, gas, get a snack or just stretch your legs, make the travel part of the trip. Take a few minutes to look at the Litchfield Museum. You will be glad you did.

Relatively new and appears small from the outside but it is jam packed inside with informative and well ordered displays and a vintage automobile complete with white walls inside! Various departments inside, including Montgomery County genealogy. Suhre neon gas sign lit up outside! You will enjoy this attraction and it is FREE and right on Old Rt 66! See a Drive in movie at the Skyview Drive In during the summer (Fri, Sat and Sun nights).

Relatively new but headed in the right direction! It's located right on old Route 66 and definitely needs more parking area. But once you're inside, relax and learn more about the history of Litchfield, as well as, information on Route 66. An old fire truck, an old car restored and tons of maps, pictures etc.. The custodians were quite well versed and very friendly. You can browse at your leisure and if you have questions, just ask. There is no charge but you may leave a contribution. Wheelchairs were available and a fine restaurant right across the street.

Wonderful place to stop and browse. History buffs will love the memorabilia in this museum. It spans from the beginning of the Litchfield area to the more recent development in the area. Those doing genealogy may find history related to families in the area. The memorial to the local soldiers spanning throughout the wars is fantastic. If you are traveling the Mother Road, you would be surprised how a small museum could hold so much history. Located near restaurants, gasoline and shopping. Handicap accessible. This museum is free.

This is the second year the museum has been open and they have an abundance of Litchfield City artifacts. They also have much about Route 66 and it's affect on the town.

The museum is new and very well done. The history of Litchfield is very well detailed and the impact of Route 66 on the development of the community is well represented in pictures and artifacts. This is a must stop for Route 66 travelers.

We thought there would be lots about Route 66, but there was only a little. There were lots of old photos and interesting displays pertaining to Litchfield. Staff was very welcoming and I picked up a couple Route 66 souvenirs.
