I love this place. We take out of town guests here whenever we can. They have a great selection and when the weather is nice you can sit out in their very quaint patio and enjoy your favorite glass of wine. They have fun events and a very cute little shop for that perfect gift!
Very nice and helpful staff helped my wife and I pick out a wine that we both liked(not and easy task).
I read an article that really hyped this place up to be a family-run business of capable grape growers and wine makers. What you get at the tasting room however, is a few self entitled hillbillys that know very little about their wine and will actually argue with customers who find their unfit for their taste. If you're a beginner on the wine scene and would like to get your foot in the door by trying some sweet wines, this is your place. Most of what they carry isn't serious wine to begin with. If you have good taste, save your money and find someplace where the staff is more professional and won't blow you off after you you let them know you didn't like a selection or two.
I love the wine that they produce, particularly since much of their wine is made with Illinois-grown grapes. Great values, and a wide selection that can suit any palate-from those who like sweet, fruit wines to big, bold reds. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful, and I always seem to leave with a few new wine choices.
We actually visited the vineyard in Sheridan as a potential wedding venue. We received a tour along with some other groups there. The owner actually led the tour and his passion and knowledge made the experience very enjoyable and informational. We even had the opportunity to help harvest a few grapes. It is a family farm and the entire staff was so friendly and helpful and made us feel very comfortable. Then we got a few tastings. My favorite was the Grandma's blush, a semi-sweet red, and we got so caught up in everything that I forgot to buy some. :( They had their caterer on site serving pizzas and burgers among other things. Though we didn't eat anything, everything looked and smelled amazing. Overall, it was such an enjoyable afternoon. We would recommend this to anyone, especially those who enjoy wine and new experiences.
We attended a tasting, and like other reviewers, found the wine tasting process very poor. They do not rinse the glass between wines, so you still have the flavor of a previous wine in your glass. In fact, on one pour, they didn't even pour out the remaining sip of wine at the bottom of my glass before adding the new wine. And, they do not offer crackers to help you clear your palate before tasting a new wine either. In addition, when we had a confusion regarding a Groupon deal, the employees were immediately rude and defensive, yelling at us in front of other customers. As they yelled, they actually said an earlier customer had the same confusion, and they had to pull up the original Groupon page to "prove it to them, too". While I can understand and appreciate that there are rules for Groupons, their demeaner was so rude and defensive, when they could have handled it much differently by explaining it in a kind way. I guess they were tired of people taking the certificate for face value (which stated five bottles of summer wine, not one bottle of each of the five preselected summer wines). We left with three bottles of wine that tasted terrible and two that were tolerable. I will never go back.
My son bought my husband and I a wine tasting/food paring gift for our birthdays. We arrived on a beautiful Sunday afternoon (after a 45 minute drive) only to find out that the event was cancelled and they failed to take my son's information to contact him. They, of course, took his credit card information and charged him, but didn't get any other information. We were offered a complimentary glass of wine, but opted to do a tasting. A majority of the wine was mediocre, however, we did like one white wine which we purchased. We gave my son's information to them to contact him for a refund. Two weeks and two phone calls later, he has still not received a refund. I called again today and was told they forgot. What a waste of a beautiful Sunday afternoon.
I found the Fox Valley Winery in Oswego, IL to be worth the drive/visit. They produce most of their own wines using the grapes from their Sheridan, IL vineyard. They give a very informative tour of the winery and offer tastings of many different wines. Reasonably priced. They also sell a large amount of wine accessories. It is located right on US Rt. 34 and is easily accessible.
Wife and I visited for the first time and were delighted with the wines. The complementary tasting includes three samples. We both liked the Riesling so we shared a bottle while sitting in the sun on the patio. They have a big wine selection and a cozy place to sit indoors if the weather isn't nice.
Great place to stop by for a bottle of wine or to find a unique gift. Free wine tastings with lots of great conversation and information about the locally produced wine. The most surprising part of our visit was finding out that the fabulous wine was more than affordable (perhaps becuase there is no shipping costs involved?). Fox Valley Winery is my new "go-to" place for holiday and birthday gifts!
Fox Valley Winery does offer good wine, no doubt, and at a great price. We hit on a case clearance sale and shared two cases with our daughter @ $48 a case, over 60% savings from the regular price. Can't beat that!I was a bit disappointed in the tasting, however. They didn't rinse the glasses between wines, and they offered no crackers between tastings, so it was difficult to switch from one wine to another and get a true taste.
The Fox Valley Winery is a local Winery in Oswego Illinois. I've tried a lot of wine over the years and hands down the Fox Valley beats everyone else. The Reisling and 2005 Cab/Sav in particuliar are our favorites. Don't waste your money on expensive brands, for less than 15 dollars a bottle you have a large selection.
