Visiting the Davenport house on the Rock Island Arsenal Island will not fill a weekend's worth of sight seeing. It will, however, give you some insight to what life was like in the formative days of the Quad Cities. Davenport made himself the most influential man in the area. It seemed he had his fingers in all sorts of plots. This small museum is a nice homage for the man who put the QC's on the map. Our guided tour was led by Miss Chris Fidlar. She was charming, knowledgeable and eager to share. We met her in the gift shop at the start of the tour, and by the end, knew more about my city than I had thought possible. The Davenport House is a little gem on the arsenal island and a must see for local history buffs.

My husband and I visited the Colonel Davenport house as part of our visit to Rock Island. The tour was wonderful! We learned so much from the tour guide, not only of the house and family that lived there but also of the time period and the local area. I cannot recommend this tour any more highly! I really enjoyed the house and the tour.

Went to the house after a great visit at the Rock Island Arsenal Museum July 24 2014. Walked into the house (little gift shop) and were confronted with an unpleasant smell which we later saw was apparently the result of someone failing to flush the toilet in the gift shop. We did not want a guided tour - we always prefer to just walk around such a place. Basically we were shown the door. To be fair, I do not think we made it clear what we wanted and that we were happy to pay regardless. But we were not offered an unguided tour nor told that we could not take one either. My wife said to the two gals "is this all (the gift shop)?" and they said "yes" so we left, having seen nothing but the outside of the house.Not impressed.

What a great way to learn about the local history and what Col Davenport did, a must see ! Just so much to see

Located on the Rock Island Arsenal... Well preserved. Tour guides were knowledgeable and gave a great overview of the importance of Col. Davenport and this home in the history of the Quad Cities. Well worth the visit.

We enjoyed our 40 minute tour with a charming, knowledgeable docent, a bargain at $5. Plenty of information about the house, Colonel Davenport, local history, and a bit of scandal. The house is furnished in period pieces, none original. Fur trading and commerce with Native Americans was the theme of a small museum upstairs. The second story would not be wheelchair accessible. There is a ramp for first floor access. I did not check door widths. There is a small gift shop. Sorry I only photographed the back of the house. The front, with a fan window over the door, is the better side. The house is on an army installation. Those over sixteen require identification, your vehicle may be searched. Check details before visiting, especially if you are a foreign visitor. Other worthwhile attractions on Arsenal Island include the Rock Island Arsenal Museum, the Mississippi River Visitor Center, the National Cemetery, the Confederate Cemetery and Memorial Field.
