We have seen a number of productions at this theater. One of our favorites is the currently running Veronica's Room. Wow, I was blown away. For those that have never been, this is a small venue, about 75 seats or so. With only 4 rows and some seating in the corners, the audience is very close to the stage making for an intimate theater going experience. Add dinner at one of the restaurants within easy walking distance and you'll have a very enjoyable evening.Parking tip: Use the parking garage just south of the intersection of routes 64 and 31. It is convenient to most everything in downtown St. Charles.
We live in St Charles and have season tickets so we are biased. Tiny, tiny theater so you can really see the actors. Quality of the acting is reasonable--in line with what you are paying. We enjoy it and would reccomend it.
love this theater, been coming for several years, just saw this production of the kids version of the "Legend of Sleepy Hollow" so wonderful, such talent these young people have. keep up the good work and fine entertainment! love the feel of this theater every time I come, it is so small and intimate and has an "old fashioned" feel. you will not be disapointed.
The theater itself leaves you wondering what you have stepped in to, but the quality of the shows are outstanding. And it is a very very small venue, so there are no bad seats. It was a great evening.
You are right up in the production. With only 4 rows of seating, very comfortable by the way, you get right up in the production. Its unlike any theater experience you have had before. The play wasy great and acting was sharp. I will get season tickets.
We have been going to Steele Beam a few years. This is a local theater that puts on 6-7 plays in a year, with good variety to choose from. The theater is small and intimate. I especially enjoy the musicals that they perform. It is just amazing how many talented folks there are in the area and the professional quality on the productions. Tickets are very reasonably priced and there are several great restaurants within a block. It makes a wonderful night out.
Not a bad seat in the house. Wonderful space just steps away from local eateries with delish dishes and fab wine lists.
Very cozy venue. You are right up front with the professional performers. Grab a beverage(adult available), sit back and enjoy great local theater in a tremendous , vibrant area on the Fox River.
Kind of small and cramped, but it kind of adds to the atmosphere. If you have kids, bring them to one of the kid productions - they'll love it.
I enjoy writing Tripadvisor reviews, and have no affiliation with the Steel Beam Theatre, located on Route 64 in downtown St Charles. The theater was founded in 2001 by Donna Steel, and my wife and I—sometimes with friends, often alone—have attended seven performances there. There is a new play about every other month. Parking is plentiful in the city garage conveniently located directly behind the theater; the walk from the four story, free parking garage to the theater is 100 yards. The tickets can be bought online from the main website, and although there is a small handling charge, the website ordering is simple and convenient as it permits you to select your actual seat on a chart. When you purchase, your name is at the theater on a list, so you just say your name and are shown to your seats. This theater is small and quaint, with exposed bricks and the namesake steel beam above the stage. The seats are padded theater style chairs in about 10 rows only—everyone gets a great view! The front row, typically too close in most theaters, is a wonderful favorite of my wife and I. You will see every bead of sweat and vibrating tongue for the musicals from these seats. The performers are, in a word, exceptional. Although this is a community theater, the actors and with a long list of prior performances, in general, as noted in the playbill. It’s a credit to the reputation of this fine theater that it can attract such talent. The plays range from two-person, intimate, one setting performances, to multi-character musicals. The website is up-to-date. There are so many places to eat locally, that you can park and have a lovely meal (ZaZa’s Trattoria in the same block is a favorite, as is McNally’s Pub) and wander up to the Steel Beam on the fourth floor and enjoy a performance, all in a fraction of the time and expense to see a Chicago play. Highly recommended.
