I stopped by on a whim. It is a little tricky to get into as you enter through a side door from the bar next door, but there were signs that guided the way easily. It was an incredible assortment of collectibles and antiques from all generations. It was fun to see some that I recognized from the American Picker's television show. Didn't see Frank, maybe next time cause I plan to be back.
We had heard about this place on Mike and Frank's e-mail updates so were nearby and decided to see what it was like. We had to go through a dark long bar to get to a door that was not marked and about fell in. It was dusty and damp and smelled like mildew. The "finds" were horrible and overpriced for the things I knew about. There were a few t-shirts with Frank's picture on them. No one was in the store to help you - don't know if you go to the bar to find someone to help or not. Unless Frank is keeping this open as a tax deductible loss it needs to close.
First of all I read a review that the place is hard to find and the biker bar you go through to get to the antique shop is smoky. The place is right on the east side of Main Street which is route 84. As for being smoky there is no smoking in any public place in Illinois the three times that I have been there I have never seen anyone in the place smoking. By the way Monday is taco day at the bar.You have to understand that Savanna is sometimes referred to as little Sturgis, there is also a famous biker bar called Poop’s on the south edge of Savanna great place to eat and look at bikes. All you can eat tocos on Tuesday at Poop’s.The antique shop is like going on a pick yourself smells like an old barn; it is not neat but full of interesting things. Unlike Mike’s store that is a souvenir shop, there are many antiques in Frank’s store and a few souvenirs. It is a consignment shop so if you are interested in Frank’s things look for #36 or Frank on the tag.Check it out for yourself. Take a day trip form East Moline Illinois north on 84 to Galena stop in Le Clair see Mikes shop and maybe eat at Sneaky Pete’s. Then stop in Savanna at Poop’s and Frank’s shop. There are more shops and things to see in Galena.
Great location, previous owner had floors of stuff. Right now nice bar with food. Great collection of old vintage motorcycles and quite a few other small stuff. Hope Frank can fill up the shop more..
If you are going to find a nice quaint store you won't. IF you are looking for great food then you will, at the bar. I was extremely surprised at the amazing charbroiled mushroom and Swiss burger I had, not sure what my husband had but it had bacon( western I think) and he loved it too. The fries were crisp and tasty with a seasoning that was, I will just say it "yummy". my rating is a mix between disappointment in the store and loving the food at the bar. I did see the mask that Frank bought that was suppose to look like him.
First let me say we love Frank on "American Pickers". He and Mike seem like down-to-earth, fun guys. That's what made us want to visit Frank Fritz's Finds in the first place. So we drove several miles out of our way to visit this antique shop. We weren't expecting to see Frank, but we were looking forward to seeing some of the things on were featured on the show. We didn't have too much trouble finding the place, but we were totally confused on where to go in, and where to go once we got in. The bar is dark and we couldn't see the door to the shop until a waitress pointed us in the right direction. Once we got into the shop, the musty smell hit us like a ton of bricks. It didn't bother me too much, because it is an old building and it is an antique shop. What did bother me was the poor lighting, and the lack of interest that anyone showed that we were even there. We walked around and looked at things for about 10 minutes, then waited for someone to come in so we could purchase a t-shirt....for too much money. But no one ever came back, in fact we were the only ones in the shop the entire time we were there. We love Frank, but if he wants this to work, he needs to put more time and effort into this place. Just brighter lighting and someone to be there at all times to answer your questions and wait on you for your purchases would be nice. If you are a die-hard fan, this is an okay stop....otherwise I wouldn't do it. Sorry Frank. :(
We love to watching Mike and Frank on American Pickers. We have visited LeClaire and Antique Archaeology several times and thought it would be fun to see Frank's store in Savanna, IL. First, unless you are driving directly through Savanna, maybe a quick stop might be alright (not really). Roads in the area were not marked well and we missed our turn twice. We went out of our way to find this place. It is very rural to get to Savanna, with winding roads. We had been in Galena and the area south of Galena before Savanna is very picturesque. Found the building, but confused about the enterance. Frank's shop is located in a biker bar. You enter a smoky bar and go past the bar counter. There was a hand written sign on a piece of crumpled paper with a hand drawn arrow that said 'antiques' as you entered the bar. The bartender just pointed to the door where you enter. It was deserted. It is very messy and didn't smell very good. There are items from the show that Frank picked, but they are displayed poorly. We saw a scale and cheese wheel slicer from the show, but a junky light fixture was on top of it. Truthfully, it was probably the worse antique shop I have been in. Sorry, Frank! We love you, but the store needs some attention! If you want his autograph, he does sell oil cans that he has signed for $20. Didn't purchase anything and it was very disappointing, since we really went out of our way to visit. Guess we have a story to tell. We laugh about it. Oh well. You can win 'me all! Frank would be wise to move his shop closer to LeClaire and benefit from the traffic at Atique Archeaology.
We looked for this place on main street and couldn't find it. Finally we noticed that we had to enter through a bar. It turns out that all of the windows were covered by pull down doors. The bartender went out after we left and opened them, and this was at 11:30am. Inside the bar it was dark and even darker inside the shop. It was very musty smelling and so dark it was hard to really see anything very good. I would not recommend this place at all.
This is located in the rear of a bar. There are some interesting items there and some that you have seen on TV. Worth the trip if you are in the area.
We recently stopped at Frank's Finds in Savanna, IL and were very disappointed. We had to walk through a smelly bar to get to the shop which smelled even worse! It had that musty, moldy basement smell. Found out that it's really more like a coop with several dealers and a few of Frank's items from his picks. Oh Frank, we love you and wish you were in a nicer place! You pick great stuff and it could be set up so much better than in this place. Weird checkout too, it was the bartender.
We looked forward to our visit to this store, as the former Pulford Opera House antique mall was one of my favorite places to shop. We looked around and I found an item in one of their showcases that I wanted. After waiting for between five and ten minutes to even be acknowledged by the person at the register, who, to be fair, was having trouble with her fax machine, I was informed that the key to the showcase I wanted was not to be found. After waiting another five to ten minutes, I was told that there was no key or duplicate, and that I should "come back another time" when, hopefully, a key might be available. Needless to say, I was disappointed, and a bit surprised at the rather cavalier treatment I was given. I'm the first to agree that things happen from time to time, but I would suggest if the store is open to shoppers, it have available the means to serve them.
We will definitely be going back for a second walkthrough when we bring in a car club to tour this place next month over the weekend. When we walked in, there was no heat on so it was a little chilly.Interesting place and is right next door to some other interesting buildings including the Iron Horse Social Club. Make a day of it and come down to see all these attractions. People and store owners are real friendly on Main Street.
This place had Stuff! And lots of it. This was a true antique shop in my opinion. Fair warning.... I don't think this building has heat, nor is lighting good so come prepared. The bar you walk thru to get in the building is Awesome!
Enjoyed the establishment and treasures. This is a great place-something for everyone! Cold beer, food, and shopping all under one roof. There's even rooms available upstairs for your overnight stay. Depending on what you like to look at there is quite a large selection of antiques-smalls & large and other collectables. You can walk through quick or spend some time. Way more than at Antique Archeology but not as commercialized!
