This is such a stunning, peaceful and quiet island. My kids and family loved it. Is is super quiet and safe. There is so much to do for the whole family. The boys fished, did a treasure hunt, flew kites, enjoyed the clubhouse pool. Most relaxing holiday we ever had.We stayed in a friends house and it was magical. My boys ask us every few weeks to go back there.
Visited Useppa Island with Captiva Cruises. The boat ride was wonderful- Bob did an informative and entertaining description of the area. Saw Dolphins close up, which was worth the experience. Lunch at the Collier Inn, unfortunately, was less than expected. I had one of their special salads, which had many pieces of spoiled, black slimy pieces of leaf lettuce in it. I pointed this out to the waiter, who indicated that he would show it to the chef. He did offer a dessert, but I had lost my appetite for food at that point. No apology or compensation was offered. So enjoy the cruise, but watch what you eat at the Inn!
We took a boat ride from the south seas resort to useppa. It has wonderful beaches and a nice restaurant. There are rich snobby people that live there but ignore them. We all love useppa
We took a boat ride from Captiva Island to Useppa Island for lunch. It was a beautiful day. The dolphins were plentiful. Useppa Island was very quaint and the lunch was delicious.
This used to be one of our favorites, unfortunately after the long time food and beverage manager Vincent Formosa retired it has sucked ever since, I have gotten food poision there at least 3 times, We cancelled our membership and will not likely ever re new it, it's a great place if you like lousy food and rich snobs
To get on Useppa Island you either must be invited by a member of the island club or community OR book a room at the island hotel. If you are looking to experience an Old Florida style experience, this place can throw you into a time warp and you can create your own reality of what year it is. The staff are pleasant, and the food is tasty...drinks can get a little expensive. So, if you are staying overnight at the hotel, I suggest you might bring your own bottle of something for your own drinking pleasure. If you don't have reservations or an invite, get one. You'll enjoy the experience. BTW, this is not a night-life venue... it's for relaxation, dining, and drinking.
Visited Useppa island, with Captiva Cruises. The two chaps on the boat (not their usual one which was in for service) were very informative and made the journey very enjoyable, stopping for us to see manatee, dolphins and flying fish!!! The lunch was very enjoyable, leaving us enough time to sit and look out at the idyllic surroundings. We didn't take the Museum trip as we wanted to enjoy the beach and walk around. Would recommend the company and trip, you wont be disappointed!!!!
Captiva Cruises offers many different tours which change with the seasons, call before you make your plans. Useppa Island is a great choice, their boat, the lady Chadwick is comfortable and offers light drinks and light snacks at a reasonable cost. The crew is fun and informative, infact, getting there is half the fun. You will enjoy a nice narration of local history as you travel to the destination. If you like history then you will like the museum on the island, it is a self guided tour but very well done. The museum is not very large and you can see everything in about 20 to 30 minutes based upon your pace. This is a good thing since you only have about 2 hours to see the museum, eat lunch, and take a quick walk around. You can have lunch at the Collier Inn, again, steeped in history. Lunch is reasonably priced with fish, chicken, beef and salads available. The decor will give you a glimpse back in time with many photos and artifacts on the walls. If you are into fishing you can see some of the first star drag fishing reels ever made on display as well as photos and short stories about huge Tarpon that have been caught there many years ago. This is a good easy to spend a day if you have had enough beach time, or, if the weather is not great but not down pouring since you do have to walk outside. If you have difficulty walking let them know and they can accommodate you with a golf cart ride. You will have some steep paths to get up but nothing too bad.Remember, Useppa is a private island, it is a privilege to be able to visit and not many people ever have the opportunity.
2nd time there took friends old time feeling just a good experience would take other transportation than boca cruises
A great trip for the family. About an hour and fifteen minute narrated boat ride in each direction. Enough time to visit the museum and have lunch.Dolphins rode in the wake of the boat. The museum on the island is an excellent short course on the history of SW Florida. Highly recommend.
What a beautiful place, my boss is a member and we were able to stay as a guest.. We rented the grandmothers apartment, view water from either side of the back porch or front! Should be on everyone's bucket list. Inn food was the best, fish tacos Sooo good, and anything at all on the dinner menu is as good as any four star restaurants. Dessert was served hot.. It was a birthday night and waitress came out with cake and candle lite carrying it on top off her head! Staff made you feel so welcomed, from the gift store to the main office. A must is to buy the book written by the gift store lady.. and learn the history of the island, rent a golf cart even for a couple of hours and explore.
Useppa is a private island, accessible only to property owners and their guests. However, through an agreement with Captiva Cruises, passengers can visit the island and have lunch at The Collier Inn. While the food is average, the setting and history of the island make the trip worthwhile. There is a wonderful museum that shares the history of the Calusa Indians and their contribution to the culture and heritage of SW Florida. The ships store on the waterfront is a must stop as one needs something to show your friends that you were on Useppa.
We have just arrived home from this privately owned island and it's just amazing - we stayed in Grandmothers suite and it's beautiful , we looked out of the balcony to the beautiful marina and looked out of the glass door and could see the beach on the other side of the island .The island has no cars on it just sandy trails that are full of wildlife and flowers. The staff who work here were lovely - we kayaked across to cabbage creek and had so much fun . The resturant has wonderful food and beautifully presented ..... We didn't want to leave
No cars, just lots of flora and fauna - Banyon trees, orchids, birds, beach, quiet, tranquil and relaxing. One of the nicest places we have ever visited in southwest Florida.
Although this island is a private owned, member's only island, we had a wonderful day visiting, touring the island, walking the botanical garden trail, strolling thru orchids, and banyan trees and bromeliads. We were on a charter boat, so were able to get a "day pass" to check the place out. Highly recommend it if you can get over there. Lady Chadwick does tours from Punta Gorda I think, and also over to Cabbage Key for a Cheeseburger in Paradise.
