Clean beaches, friendly Rangers, beautiful view. Had a great time walking on the pier with the kids. Fishing museum was interesting. Lots of marine life visible-dolphins, manatees, sea birds, sea turtles.
This state park is surrounding Sebastian Inlet which lies between Indian River county and Brevard county about 18 miles south of Melbourne. The drive on A1A is interesting as it is along the ocean and lagoon. The park has beachfront and lagoon front activities. It has an incredible fishing pier that lets you walk almost into the ocean as you watch the fast moving water go by when tides change. There is also a new restaurant and shops building just built in the last year. Camping is available and you can launch boats there. I have camped and visited many times. It is very nice.
We come here atleast once a year for this kids to swim in the shallow pool. This time we went out and played on the beach as well! fun for all! and a bargain for $8 a car load
Loved this beach !! Shells galore sunset amazing clean beach surfers dream it was an awesome time definitely want to go back
Been going to Sebastian for easily 45 years or so. Camping, fishing, surfing, access to off-shore or just hanging out. Its always represented a good part of what living in Florida has too offer.
Sebastian Inlet has so many bests it's hard to list them all. You can, in a single day, surf .one of the best spots in Florida. "FIRST PEAK" has many contests during the year. You can: fish from the pier on the pay for north side or free south side in the ocean or the inlet. Swim in the ocean or the swimming hole( north west side) where dolphins and manatees can be spotted in the inlet or swimming with you. You can snorkel on the northwest side next to the inlet by the rocks in the swimming hole . Not advisable to go in the actual inlet unless you know the area very well and are a good swimmer with proper flags. Tides in the inlet can run up to 12 mph any day . Picnic on inlet or ocean side or just bask in the sun. If not hot enough to go in the water, you can sit and watch boats fight the inlet waves and catch fish on calmer days. Oh I forgot to mention, this is the cleanest and most beautiful water in this area. They also have clean restrooms and changing areas and reasonably priced food in the park. The southwest side has a boat ramp (marine police patrol this area so bring all necessary safety equipment and paperwork if you bring your boat). If you don't do any of these things it's still fun to watch.
We have been to Sebastian Inlet a few times and have always enjoyed the visit. Something new since the last trip was the restaurant and gift shop. Great food in a beautiful building! The prices were on the high side but the food was great. Beautiful views and the pier is always fun to walk out on as long as you watch out for the fishing poles and can ignore the fishy smell. The inlet provides a shallow, current-free area for the kids to play in which is a safer alternative to the beach waves.
I've been going to Sebastian Inlet for about 50 years now - but a couple of weeks ago was the first time I'd gone for the music - it's a great experience. The park is beautiful - always something going on between the surfing, fishing, and enjoying the fantastic scenery. The facilities are first rate and the park personnel are wonderful - very friendly and very helpful. It's a great place to take the family for an outdoors experience.
I love the views of the water. Ther always seem to be things to do at the park. There are free classes about fishing, birds, tours of the mangroves, snakes, etc. Moonlight kayaks tours as well as daylight ones are offered for a fee. The free state beach is south of the inlet on the east side on A1A, south of bridge. Nice clean beach and bath house. In the park itself, the fishermen from all over the world, think this is the best fishing spot with the long piers and the catwalks under the A1a bridge. (currently the south walk is under construction.)There is a free fishing museum on the south side. The movie inside shows the history of the fishing in the Sebastian area and local history is very interesting. THere is a cute little gift store inside of the museum. While the men fish, the women and children walk down to the beach or have a picnic, when not fishing themselves. On the north side, (you can enter the either half of the park - north or south- with admission with one fee paid). The north side has free wifi, restaurant, a longer fishing pier, picnic area, and a shallow swimming area for kids. Fishing licenses are available on the north side as well. On both sides, people fish from the rocks along the inlet. Be careful, the tide runs really fast through the man-made inlet. For the bird watchers, walkers and bicycle riders there are paths in the park, and the Jungle Trail. There is camping at the south side when you make reservations through the Florida State Park reservation center. Don't forget to go to the McLarty Museum 15 miles south of the inlet. It has an affortable admission of $2. It had a movie and exhibit that explains about the 1715 Spanish Plate Fleet that went down in during a hurricane carrying lots of plates and treasure. (hense the name The Treasure Coast) Pelican Island is south of the inlet but don't expect to see a lot of peiicans until they return at dusk. Nice walk through the mangroves.Going north up the road from the state park, on A1a, is the Barrier Island Sanctuary where there are interactive exhibits, hiking trail and educational programs. This is also the entrance to the Archie Carr Refuge. There are lots to do and beautiful site. The park is clean and neat. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. I can't wait to go back again. The pelicans, all kinds of birds ,dolphins, and when it warms up the manatees show themselves in the waters of the inlet. Amazing place!
Walk out on the pier and enjoy the view, including dolphins, pelicans, and all kinds of other fish and birds. Pier is pretty long. Great area to watch sunset from.
While driving along A1A, we saw this off the road park. There is a great path along the ocean inlet, and a couple of piers to walk out on. Picnic tables along the sandy beach and clean rest rooms and restaurant available. Great for kids to explore and look for turtles.
Wow!!! What a beautiful place. Views are breathtaking. Walking down the pier we saw a manatee and several sting ray in the water. Restaurant is nice and good food. Beach is clean, water is fairly clear and blue. Can't wait to come back here again.
This is a delightful spot to relax in with a low entrance fee of I believe $4-5 . There is a lot of nature and it is not crowded even on weekends. Activities include fishing, birding, surfing, sun bathing and body watching or anything else that you can think of.The inlet also has very little traffic so getting there is very easy as you always keep the ocean . If you look carefully you probably will see the famous manatees and dolphons enjoying the local waters as well.
I can't think of enough good words to describe this place. It does have an entry fee. $8 per carful, I think. $4 if you are alone. Beautiful scenery, clean restrooms, you can swim, you can fish, you can surf, you can picnic and you can just watch the waves and dream away.
This is a really fun place for everyone! Just remember u might see some jelly fish!!! U can pretty much stay the day here!
