This is by all standards a fairly small train museum, but it contains a great deal of local Florida train history. You can tour a caboose and watch trains go by from the platform. All of this is located in the downtown area surrounded by a park, walking paths, and small retail and mostly antique shops. You will find a small restaurant/coffee shop nearby. Parking was free and easy. Travel brochures were located inside. Clean restrooms inside. It was a free, enjoyable walking afternoon. Head east to pick up your fresh, delicious strawberries. Avoid this city during Strawberry Festival if at all possible...traffic was awful. Search out backroads.

The viewing platform is exactly what every town needs - a way to watch the trains go by without buildings or landscaping in the way. The town did a great job constructing the platform to blend in with the city, and it's fantastic to just sit, watch, and talk. Having the museum on the other side of the tracks makes it simple to spend a nice day wandering around. If there was a pedestrian bridge to avoid having to walk to the crossing, then back down to get to the museum, that would be that much better.

My family and I were out on a day trip visiting some of the local sights of the Plant City area. We saw good TripAdvisor reviews on the Train Viewing Platform. Being we were only a mile or so away, we decided to swing in and have a look.Parking is easy. We were here on a Saturday afternoon and the lot was pretty much empty. Perhaps if a special event was going on nearby things would be different, but I have a feeling most times this won't be an issue.The viewing platform is nice. It lies at the corner where three tracks, two in one direction and one in another, intersect. It has a lower and upper level serviced by a handicap lift. It is easy to see a good distance on the upper level on one set of tracks, but unfortunately, the old depot (current train museum) blocks all sight lines in that direction. I was hoping the viewing area would extend over a set of tracks to be able to look directly down, but this was not the case.During our stay on the platform and museum next door (see my review there) no trains went by. We were there close to an hour. Unfortunately, there is no train schedule or scanner. You'll need to be informed on your own if you want to see trains. The area is in a nice, quaint part of town. I wouldn't drive out of my way to go here, but it's fun if you are already close. What a wonderful place to share Plant City's history. Henry B. Plant for which Plant City was named would be so proud of the platform where students can come and enjoy not only history but the trains.

It was a nice place to go and we went inside and learned alot about the history of the trains in plant city.The teenagers were bored with it but the adults enjoyed looking at all the old train things in the depot.

Great place to watch trains. This is easily the best place in Plant City and one of the best places to watch trains in Florida!

It is a shame there is not more train traffic in Plant City; the town has a first rate train watching platform. You can expect somewhere around 20-25 trains per day here. The platform is two stories which makes for unique photo angles. Parking is an issue since the city allows people to park here for downtown events. Another negative is no public restroom at the platform. Make sure you bring a scanner; one is not available at the platform. If you have some patience, you will really enjoy an afternoon at the beautifully built Plant City Train Watching Platform.
