Nestled across from Doc's, the Cornell Museum is a nice place to spend some time out of the sun for a mere $5 donation. They have various art exhibits, and curios about Delray Beach. When we were there, they had a room devoted to art about Brooklyn. Pretty Cool !
Although it has been here for 25 years , I never knew we had a wonderful theater right in the heart of Delray Beach Fl. This past Sunday Nov.23rd we attended an upbeat and exciting show called "Atlantic City Boys" which was Four dynamic lead singers doing songs from the 1960`s, rock and roll harmonies in a fully produced stage show with a live band and popular music of that era. My wife said "it felt like I was back in High School". Needless to say the show was just fabulous. We will also attend a showing of A Chorus Line 12/5 thru 12/14 and a lecture given by Scott Hamilton on Jan. 15th. My first Broadway show was when I was 15 and years later I worked across the street from Shubert Alley and saw many Broadway shows during those times.. I can`t begin to say how happy I was to discover that in. addition to the Arts the Culture and the lure of downtown Delray, we also have a slice of Broadway.theater
We visited mid-week and had it nearly to ourselves. The watercolors on exhibit were terrific and watercolors aren't usually to my liking. My children (ages 7 & 9) really enjoyed the small size of the museum, the fact that it's in an old elementary school (hugely high ceilings, tall windows and beautiful wood floors), and the children's creating classroom, where they were free to make any of 6-8 arts and craft projects on their own (instructions and materials were clearly labeled on the shelves).
We attended a show of the Florida Water Color Society and had a great time, the art work was well lit and easy to view. The museum is in an old two story building which lends some charm. Parking can be difficult, I think particularly during a busy time like this show. I can't comment on the permanent collection the museum may have but this show was worthwhile. We always try to see local museums as we travel and this is a nice one.
Small museum inexpensive with great exhibits saw the paper exhibit in August will go soon to see the watercolor exhibit and the Brooklyn based art now at the Cornell
i had seen info on a particular collection show being shown at this museum (in the old school) & was curious. the show i saw (ends August 2014) is called "from ordinary to extraordinary: paper as art" but i intend to see many more collection shows at this great location..the building is gorgeous. a 1913 school, lovingly restored. a perfect backdrop for the art. there were a couple of volunteers working and both were very friendly and excited about the museum. entrance fee was very fair. this collection had works from 15 paper artists from around the world. the pieces were all different and thought provoking. .wonder what the next show will be? can't wait.
