The Baldwin bike trail is a close in trail that offers people in Jacksonville a change to get in a good bike ride/walk and enjoy the nature of the area. Although marred by a few old, dilapidated buildings and shacks along the way, the trail gives people a chance to get away and also get in some intense exercise (if that is your intention) in a out and back course that can raise your heart rate while at the same time gives the traveler a pleasant view. Families, couples or individual all can enjoy the 20+ miles any time they want to jump out and get on the trial that's fee and open to the public. Bathroom facilities are available several miles down the trail if the need arises.
You can believe everything you read. This place is great! The ride is smooth, straight and the trail is covered with a canopy of trees. We started at Camp Milton and went to Baldwin, can't wait to go back and do the rest of the trail. Very family friendly, felt safe.
This is an excellent bike ride. About 26 miles round trip but you can ride as much or little as you wish. See the woods of north Florida without all the traffic.
My brother and I were in JAX for the weekend and decided to go biking. My brother found this trail online and we decided to check it out. It's a nice trail through wooded farmland close to JAX. There were many people using this trail which accommodates walkers, runners, bicyclists, and equestrians. While the scenery could have been better the ride is enjoyable. This trail is 20+ miles of awesomness!
Needed a good place to get in an early morning ride while in town on business. It was great--albeit flat & straight...well, this is Florida. Be aware, you may be solicited by the local security...A ROOSTER. He was not bothersome, but he did apparently expect some fee-d! Saw wild turkey and deer in the 7.5-8 mile portion I did starting at Imeson Trailhead. Saw a few patrol cars at crossings which was comforting. They were probably there for traffic enforcement but still nice.
14 miles of smooth pavement each way. There is a nearly total tree canopy which keeps you comfortable even in the middle of a warm day. Only a couple of street crossings, and the traffic was minimal. There is a Civil War site near the halfway point with restroom facilities. It's a good educational break. There is plenty of parking on the Jacksonville end and a nice picnic area on the Baldwin end. Try it. You'll be glad you did.
Not Scenic. Paved all the way. Was previously a RR track. I enjoyed it. I started my ride in Baldwin,FL. If you cannot find the start, just ask any local.
Varied terrain, a wonderful civil war encampment and a safe place to cycle with nice facilities All in all a great paved bike trail with no vehicular traffic.
This is a paved over former railbed and provides some of the easiest and safest cycling around. There are a few intersections with car traffic, but it is mostly car free. It actually starts downtown, but you don't want to go through that part -- it's a high crime area. Start near Baldwin.
The Rail Trail is a great place to ride without worrying about traffic while you ride. The trail is 14 miles one way so it is perfect for anyone training for longer rides. My BIL does the BRAG (bike ride across GA) and trains at the trail to help build endurance. The trail goes through some beautiful wooded areas that make for great photos. Being that much of ht trail is wooded there typically is wildlife from squirrels and deer on the fuzzy side and snakes on the other end. Depending on the time of year you will need bug spray and/or sunscreen. Take the time and enjoy the trail.
This is a fun 30 mile roundtrip path. There are a few intersections where you have to watch for cars, but otherwise it's paved, flat, and safe. Part of the Rails to Trails paths.
Ran here early in the morning (6:30) while staying downtown on a business trip and was the only person on the trail until nearly the end. It may be a better biking trail than a running trail but for both it is very nice. Until ~3mi you are running under power lines but 3 onwards are gorgeous. Would recommend to run/ride with a buddy if going early as it's pretty dark and a tad spooky. There is a bathroom at the parking area off the Imeson road trailhead.
Florida is blessed with many good bike trails, and the Jacksonville-Baldwin Trail is one of the best. Well paved, away from motor traffic, the trail passes through some lovely wooded areas. Wildflowers are abundant in Spring, Summer, and Fall.
My daughter and I have biked, hiked (and she even roller bladed) on this trail. It is paved and has a lot of shade...perfect trail for the whole family...and your dogs, too!
Lovely trail with history, shade, and exercise. Depending on when you go-you may need bug spray and be sure to carry drinking water. Beautiful nature trail with plenty of green and animals. Lots of families take advantage of this free trail. It is a blast.
