For a few dollars you are escorted through the museum with an amazingly well informed and interesting gentleman docent.All the questions we had about the area were clearly answered. Recommend this as a first stop if history is what is important to you. We then took the Ghost tour that evening that is presented by the museum. So good!!The tour guides really knew the town and its stories. Not scary but a little eerie! The history of Fernandina is well preserved by these knowledgeable historians.

This museum is small, but it holds lots of information and interesting facts about the Island. The building itself is historical and something to see. The museum greeter was very helpful in giving us plenty of information about the museum as well. Very cute items in the gift shop and reasonably priced. Nice place to visit.KyFam

Give this museum a look - there is more to Amelia Island than most visitors realize. you will learn a lot.

The museum provides a fantastic overview of the islands first settlers all the way through current industries. There are a lot of interesting artifacts spread out throughout the different rooms and the buildings history is fascinating as well.

We visited the museum in a rainy day and it was a great choice! It's a very interesting place to visit with children and teenagers to learn the history of the sorroundings. I fully recommend it.

Room after room of interesting exhibits in the old jailhouse. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. A short walk from the historic district hotels.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Amelia Is. Museum of History and what a town of 11,000 or so people have to share with the public. For $7. you can take a narrated tour with a guide or use your cell phone for an audio tour, or go at your leisure. Knowing that there is a lot of history here this small museum does well to chapter the essence of how Amelia Is. has bounced back from so many changes in government, environment, economic issues, and social issues. I particularly liked the jail room. One quote on the wall talks about how "many locals grew up in the jail" and how Mrs. Carneige's son's spent so much time at the jail she invested in one of the cells to make it more comfortable for her sons while they were there. Life isn't what it used to be. Give it a shot and take time to read the information the town has collected and you'll learn why Amelia Is. is the town of 8 flags.

Informative and entertaining docent tour in this small but important museum. It is your shortcut to understanding the island and is a fantastic orientation. Highly recommend it.

Took the wife and another couple on the Thursday night history pub tour offered by the museum. This is my 2nd time on the tour with Walt. It was a rainy miserable weather day, but Walt made the tour GREAT! We got to tour the historic downtown area and learn about the history. We stopped and had drinks at 4 different pubs. I plan to do a tour again this summer...but only if Walt is the guide!

The museum, formerly a jail, was given to the museum historical group some years ago. The greeting was highly personable. Each room gives a special meaning. You can dial in on your smartphone and listen to information in various rooms. Well done, I recommend visiting the museum.
