I took a terrific four day pastel painting workshop with Robert Carsten titled "The Beauty of Light and Color". Robert is a kind, generous and talented teacher imparting information in a low key but informative way. Because this was the last class of the summer the Fletcher Farm School campus was virtually closed. While there was someone there for the prepaid lunches and I suppose dinners because I did not overnight, there was no one there to tell you where the class was being held. The pre emailed info did not have the class location either. I did not mind not having a bustling campus at all but did feel we were somewhat abandoned. Depending on the teacher and subject, I would definitely take another workshop there.
This is a place where you can take lessons in almost any craft and then display and sell your items. I go to the annual July 4th sale andit is worth the trip to see what is available. Some very unique crafts are offered. Students can actaully take month long classes and stay int he dorms on site.
NIce place. Wonderul arts & crafts on display. Historically fun if not signifcant. Attentive staff too.
Fletcher Farm School offers a wide variety of classes. Taught by experts in their fields, it is amazing how much you can learn in a few days! This summer I took classes in Rug Making, with Amy Oxford, inventor of the Oxford Punch Needle and author of Punch Needle Rug Hooking Techniques and Designs and other books on rugs; and Rug Braiding as embellishment to hooked rugs with Kris McDermet, one of the authors of Combining Rug Hooking & Braiding Basics, Borders, & Beyond. So lucky to be able to take classes with these talented women. In the past I have taken classes in basketry, wood carving and drawing. All of the instructors have been excellent. They offer classes in jewelry making, fiber arts, fine arts, glass, photography, quilting, weaving and so much more. When you are on campus, you are encouraged to walk around through the different classrooms, and see what everyone else is working on. I've been going there each summer for almost 15 years, and each year I love it even more!!
