vermont backroad tours - day tours

Our guide was Kelly Socia. He did an excellent job on our custom four and one half hour tour in the Rutland/Killington area. So much local color, historical insights, and personal stories were part of our experience - as Kelly is a native of this area - and clearly passionate about Vermont. He answered our numerous questions with clarity and expertise. We were taken to ski lodges and ski runs, to gorgeous homes and beautiful farms, to the Appalacian Trail - where we walked on a rickety bridge and had a picture taken by a waterfall. Sugar houses and a thorough explanation on making maple sugar was a part of our day. A covered bridge and one hundred year old country store was included in our tour. And one of our favorites - meeting the Scottish belted Galloway cows! Loved the downtown Rutland area as well. This experience far exceeded our expectations and we highly recommend it. We were in Rutland visiting my husband's elderly mother this past weekend. We were trying to think of something to do with her since she cannot walk around a lot these days. We were happy we chose to take her on the Backroad Tour. Sharon (owner) did an excellent job narrating the trip and took special care of my mother-in-law, making sure she didn't have to walk a lot at the stops we made. Although my husband grew up in VT, even he learned a few new things about his home state. It was not only informative, the sites she took us to were beautiful, classic VT areas. I would definitely recommend this tour. We plan on doing the Civil War Tour that Sharon's husband provides next time we are in VT.
