The museum itself has some great treasures. But the tour of the Franklin House was particularly nice. What an architectural wonder!
A great diversity of artifacts representing the history of the town and its people were well presented in this small museum. Well worth an hour's visit.
This museum has not been open long (about a year) but they have their act together! Chillicothe had been the capital of Ohio in its early days of statehood, and the museum collection reflects the city's early importance. The modern welcoming area connects two beautiful historic houses, all three areas displaying many of the museum's artifacts. These artifacts are diverse: ancient cultures items, early statehood items, Civil War items, and even a variety of antique toys and dolls. In addition, several transportation related items are displayed, including an auto made in Chillicothe and a wonderful, colorful band wagon. Outdoors you can tour the Knoles Log House, built in the 1820s. The docent leading our tour was friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating when we wanted to linger at a given display. Expect to be delighted!
