This house is absolutely stunning. You actually get to go through 17 rooms. Original furnishings in tact. EXCELLENT tour guide. It was worth the drive! We saw it on the Internet. I'm so glad we went!
Seventeen rooms that display the history and way of life in a turn of the century home belonging to the wealthy Reeves family. The home is in beautiful restored condition and contains many of it's original furnishings. The condition of the home makes you feel like the family could return at any time. You do need to walk up some stairs to see the bedrooms and the ballroom. Our host, Katie, was charming and really enjoyed sharing the history of the family and welcomed all questions. Our host in the carriage house was equally charming. Best to check website for hours and pricing. Their telephone number is (800) 815-2794. I am guessing but I would suggest that a good hour is required for the visit.
My family & I just went & they have it decorated for Christmas & it's very beautiful. We loved the tour to hear the history of the family, the tour guide was very knowledgeable. When you go into the carriage house & go upstairs there's a lot of history facts about the town of Dover also which is very interesting. We all really enjoyed going & thought it was very interesting.
Been awhile since we were there, but thinking of returning this year as we've heard there have been some pleasant changes. Can't imagine it getting better, but we shall see! Beautifully decorated for the holidays, really puts you in the spirit.
Interesting to hear the story of the Reeves Family and their impact on the Tuscarawas Valley. They provided so many families with jobs and careers that enabled them to provide homes and an education for their children.
My wife wanted to do something fun for her birthday. We didn't have a lot of time since our son was in school this day. She grabbed the entertainment book and started looking though the coupons and found the Reeves Home. We both have never been to this place or even heard about it. Off we went and wow are we glad. This home and carriage house has a lot to see. You are given a tour by a guide who tells you about the Reeves family and business. Its a really nice tour. I would recommend stopping and taking the tour.
We had a wonderful tour guide who made this beautiful home come alive. To know that the majority of the furnishings actually belonged to the family made it even better. What a great place to spend a couple of hours.
If you have been to JE Reeves home before this year -- you are going to have to return! They have revamp the tour with actors/actresses and you take part in the portrayal. Fantastic and exciting -- see this soon.
Very interesting tour of home and stables of the Reeves family. Original home and furnishings worth the trip
This was an incredible house that has been maintain in the regal manor that it deserves. Very beautiful. Tour was a little rushed , not enough time to truly appreciate the grandeur.
The tour guide was fantastic and really filled us in on so many details a must see when in the area.
This house is an impressive structure and its beauty is brought out particularly well at Christmas time. The house is open until 7 PM during the Christmas season and seeing it at night as we did enhanced the experience. Our tour guide was very informative about the history of the house, Mr. Reeve's business ventures and the history of the family. The fact that 90% of the furnishings in the house were from the Reeve's family also helped make the property a special attraction. The recreation of the house as it was when the Reeves resided there was apparently aided by Mr. Reeves' grandson, who donated the house to the Historical Society one year before his death. The interior, with its Christmas décor, was beautifully presented and was a very enjoyable visit. This year's theme involved trains such that nearly every room had a Christmas Tree and an antique toy train that circled the base of each of those trees. As a bonus, the carriage house attic also had a few displays depicting local history. If you can make a visit in the evening during the Christmas season, you will find a tour of this house to be worth your time.
Open Sunday which is nice as not much is in parts of Amish country such as Berlin Ohio. Dover is not that far so we stopped and glad we did. Had a good tour guide and it's an easy house to tour. Many of the furnishings are original to the owner and worth seeing if you like antiques.
We like to go here at Christmas time when the have the tree and everything is decorated. The house is furnished completely with turn of the century items and furniture. Its a nice look back at how he wealthy lived in that era. I only gave it 4 stars because it does not take very long to see everything, but what is there is very interesting to see. Nice history lesson for the kids.
After watching the History Channel mini-series "The Men Who Built America" (Carnegie, Rockefeller, etc.), we took our sons to the Reeves home to see how a local steel millionaire would have lived in that same time period. The house was lovely, well restored and decorated for Christmas. The tour was very informative and interesting. The exhibits in the carriage house were very good -- especially the pictures showing the home before the restoration. The staff was wonderful and the Christmas cookies were delicious! Our only complaint was that there was no heat on the second floor of the carriage house and it was too cold up there to stay and look at the exhibits.
