Its an arboretum. Its really wonderful if you like grass, trees and shrubs with some flowers thrown in. I prefer a good steak a glass of pino noir single malt scotch 10 years old or older.
excellent value and varietylarge and extensive groundsyear round attraction but especially brilliant in Spring
An amazing place when you here its' history. A couple of thousand acres total with trees and shrubs from around the world having been brought here. There is a tram (for a fee) which will take you around much of the area. A place worth visiting.
We walk almost daily but the fall visits are breathtaking. The butterfly garden looks like something out of a fairy tale. The bright oranges and yellows set it aglow in the sunshine.A nice place for families of all ages.
This place is the one not to miss if you get to visit Cleveland, especially in the fall, breathtaking views where ever you step, you leave this place energized!!
I am able to go to the Arboretum with people or by myself and every time I go I see something that I missed the last time I was there. The trails are well carved out and easy to walk. The groves of trees and shrubs that are clustered to varieties are helpful with my own landscaping. The peace and richness abounds. Just plan a leisure stroll, it will rejuvenate you.
This park is a great place to relax and enjoy the beauty. Lush landscapes with thousands of blooming flowers are the perfect backdrop for photos. They offer a lot of events all year long.
There are multiple paths and trails to explore here. I loved the setting of wildflowers and plants, trees and hedges, ponds and lakes. Lovely butterfly garden. There were lots of bees collecting pollen from the wildflowers but don't worry, they are on a mission and ignore you. If you have a passion for photography or nature, this is the place for you! I did not bring my camera and want to return for another tour with it. The photos from my phone came out fairly well though. I highly recommend this wonderful local resource for all ages!
Truly beautiful grounds. Had some trouble with tram tour operator/volunteer who drove the tram. She had a bad knee and had to have the drivers seat pushed back so she could stretch out her leg. The result was the seat behind hers had 3 inches between the cushion and the driver seat back. I asked if she could move it up even an inch and she sharply replied "NO" and started talking to another guest. The Manager refunded our money when we talked to her about it and said they may need to restrict the number of people on her tours so to keep that seat empty. The volunteers who gave the butterfly tour was excellent. Best advise for those visiting is do go - but ask about who is leading the tram tour before signing up.
The Holden Arboretum is a beautiful collection of display gardens, labeled plants and trails through the lovely Ohio woodland. Each garden displays a large variety of plants which are harmoniously mixed and well maintained. The butterfly garden is quite attractive as well as the rhododendron garden. It is a very relaxing way to spend several hours. The visitor center and small gift shop are quite nice.
As a professional horticulturalist I am not an average visitor but it was well worth the time. Very pretty grounds and pathways. The new rhododendron garden needs some time to mature and grow in. Signage was pretty good on most plants but some were missing. The pond needed some attention. The book store and shop was very sparse. Not much to look at or buy. They run shuttles for those who can't walk around.
I visited the arboretum with my daughter and a friend. It is so beautiful to view all of the different gardens and woodland trails. It is very well maintained and worth a stop. The admission was $10 per person, but you can get $1 off per person if you are a member of AAA. You can spend hours here walking the many trails.
We spent the better part of an afternoon here on a lovely day in late May. The place is just beautiful and it appears as if there is something to see in every season. We were fortunate enough to be there during lilac and rhododendron season. There are many gardens to explore. We especially enjoyed the butterly garden and the wildflower garden. The arboretum is beautifully laid out and walkable. For those challenged by walking, there are reasonably priced tram tours which cover the majority of what there is to see. There is also a lovely picnic area. Recommend highly.
I got to hike Stebbins Gulch, enjoy a geology slide show, take in the various gardens and tour the David G. Leach Research Station all in the same month while visiting The Holden Arboretum. This jewel that shouts come and visit me is a favorite of mine and worthy of the time spent seeing nature at its best. There are plenty of things to see and do with children of all ages. There is plenty of parking and a cool gift shop. Every time I visit I learn more about my world and my backyard. My goal is to visit in each season and see all the changes before my eyes..
really great that this land was preserved and on Tuesdays they offer free concerts where you can bring your own food or buy from their vendors, free and fun in a sanctuary setting, can't beat it
