This is supposed to be the most scenic of hikes. The top three include Brandy Wine Falls, The Blue Hen and the Ledges
This is a great hike , you get a little work out while at it. Views of the massive rocks and the ledges are amazing. Quite peaceful, a bit rocky to navigate in places and a hiking stick can be helpful when wet out or to help with footing and tripping over rocks and roots. The cave is closed due to protecting the bats, you can walk by it, but not explore in it which was a bummer for us.
The Ledges are beautiful, cool, rock formations / cliffs. Loved all of the green moss! Walked some trails with my mom for a couple hours over Labor Day weekend and we really enjoyed it. Bat cave was closed to protect the bats. Maps available (recommended) by the parking lots showing all of the different trails you can hike. We saw a doe with 3 babies in the woods and was able to get some great pictures. They didn't even seem scared. Probably used to seeing people out there. There are shelters available w/ tables to eat lunch if you wish. Wear proper footgear. Steps and tree roots are pretty jagged in some spots.
We hiked here early in the morning and it was so beautiful. The sunlight shining through the trees and the massive rock formations and ferns made it memorable. The kiddies liked exploring the paths through the rocks and up and down the stone steps. The cave was closed to protect the bats but we were able to feel the cold air at the entrance. Don't miss this lovely walk through the forest.
This hike is medium to difficult depending on how many cliff ares you want to climb! Views are awesome! If you like this, be sure to head about 45 mins to Nelson kennedy ledges state park as well!
Those who are looking for the awesome sights of western national parks should skip the beautifulBrandywine Falls and head for the nearby Virginia Kendall Ledges. The various hikes include several WPA constructed assets including shelters and a tremendous stone stairway. The overlook has a view for miles which makes you question where you are actually are.
The ledges truly are a gem in the national park! We hiked the Ledges trail and really enjoyed the wooded scenery with the cliff ledges abutting the trail along the way. The trail was steep in some parts but was very scenic and a very nice hike. The Ledges overlook was on top of the ledges looking out a ways and the trail was very good! Be sure to hike the Ledges trail if you visit Cuyahoga and it was defiantly our favourite trial in the park! Highly recommended!
