How ever far you travel this is a must to see. It is worth the trip! I learned a lot of the area history that I did not know!!

We especially liked the Underground Railroad exhibit, the "Downton Abbey" clothes, and the Shaker display

Nothing wrong with this place, so much fun to see how they display fully decorated rooms and to see so many tools of the time. For such a small entrance fee you really get a lot of knowledge about the history going back 200 yrs! There is a fabulous resource library where you can look up all kinds of info about Lebanon all the way back to the founding. You should not miss this place especially if you are home schooling.

The WCHS is a nice museum with interesting Warren County and Shaker exhibits. It is connected to the old post office which has been renovated into a fabulous rental location. Glendower Mansion is also related to the museum and is only 2 blocks away. When you are done visiting, the Golden Lamb is right down the street for a quiet dinner.

I was so excited to visit the Warren Historical Society! Traveled from AZ to PA & visited Warren for a day. Staff was very accommodating & helpful. You need at least a day just to get started in the history that is available! There are so many different records available and it is not digital....so you will need to remember how to use a library card system (so fun!). I was told that the court house next door has lots of records available but I wasn't able to stop in...maybe next time. The building is very cool & has a history all to itself Overall I was so happy to visit & will plan a trip so I can spend a couple days!

I went in asking for a 'walking tour of the historic district' as I'd been told they had them. One staff member actually seemed annoyed about my request. She followed me into the gift shop to ask WHO exactly had told me they had walking tour info as I was the THIRD person who had asked in the past week. It appears she did not appreciate being asked about it. To which I would suggest ... given they are part of the historic district, maybe a walking tour guide would be a GOOD IDEA!. I would not go back.

A great museum, anyone would enjoy, especially if your interested in local history. Plan on spending at least a couple hours. Their quilt show brings in guests from all over. Check on this and other special events on their website.

My daughter and I love going to the Warren County Historical Society Museum and Glendower Museum. Both are inexpensive but full of lots of historical artifacts and interesting information. My daughter has always loved the recreated 1800's town inside. And as far as Glendower Museum goes, it is great fun being led through the house by tour guides in historical costume. There is just so much to learn and they make it very interesting. If going to Lebanon for a day, i would recommend both of these activities!

Glendower was so beautifully decorated. The museum is always very interesting, especially the Shaker exhibit.

Lebanon's History Center does a fine job of bringing dry history to life. On entering the Museum, we go onto a "Village Green" - a large open space surrounded by recreations of workshops, stores and small offices from the 1800's. Seeing these exhibits and artifacts gives us an impression of the daily lives of people in that era.Downstairs we saw a great collection of flint arrowheads, stone tools, and other artifacts of Ohio's extensive early indigenous peoples. Separately, there are rooms full of pristine carriages and well preserved early farming implements. The upper floor of the Museum holds several wonderful rooms of fine Shaker furniture and tools. The Shaker's Union Village, just outside of Lebanon, was one of the largest Shaker communities in the west, and many elements of Shaker lives are preserved and artfully displayed in these extensive galleries. Seeing the full-sized loom brings home the work required to make clothing for the Believers. Here we see the great historical treasures of a bygone way of life. The Museums several curators seem to continually update exhibits and bring new finds out for display - the rare examples of Shaker Pottery are a unique exhibit, seen nowhere else in the country. We watch for programs presented by the History Center and try to catch a talk, a cemetery tour with live historic characters, the Civil War reenactment, and concerts at Glendower when we can coordinate our schedules. A small admission charge supports the museum and ongoing research facilities. Also watch for Free Thursdays and periodic free open programs.

The History Museum has the complete history of the Shakers in this area. Ask if Glendower is open, this is their 1840 house on the hill just a short walk from the Museum

This is probably one of the best Shaker museum exhibits outside of New England. The "western" Shakers in Ohio and Kentucky came along well after the New England were established and since they had fewer numbers, they died out early in the 20th century. The museum has a very nice collection of Shaker items as well as other local artifacts. If you are into Shaker visit the museum and the Golden Lamb restaurant across the street. The Lamb also has a nice collection of Shaker antiques. For the utimate Shaker experience drive about three hours south to the restored Shaker village in Pleasent Hill, KY. Have dinner there and stay the night in one of their historic buildings. It's a great experience!
