Went for a guy's golf weekend and had a blast. Three different 9 hole courses that can be played so many different ways. Extremely challenging but Extremely fun for average or good golfers. Course was in excellent conditions for a November, can only imagine what there like in the spring or early summer. Service at the club house was exceptional. They treat you first class. stayed in the condos on the course. Obviously its a little older building but its been well maintained and couldn't really ask for more on a golf weekend or a weekend at the lake. Total cost for two nights and 3 days of unlimited golf $300. Thought the course was nicer then some of the higher end courses in okc. Will be going back. Wish the restaurant and bar where open later all nights but we were not there during peak season.
Shangri La is primarily a first class golf course and restaurant. Eddie Gibbs has invested over 30 million dollars to make this course beautiful and challenging. The Summit Restaurant and Buffalo Bar offer gourmet breakfast, lunch, and dinner selections and is open to the public. There is a great balcony right outside the bar area to sit and have a beverage or dinner with a beautiful view of several infinity ponds and the main lake. There is also a fun outdoor restaurant and bar down the road at the Shangri La Marina called Island Joe's. They offer casual fare and live music on Friday and Saturday nights. They also offer boat rentals. While the lodge was torn down a couple of years ago due to its age and decripit nature, rooms and lake front properites are available through Shangri La Realty on Monkey Island. The owner of the resort is set to begin construction this fall on some townhomes around the golf course and lake. Monkey Island is not at all remote as someone suggested and would be a great, central locale for those who want to explore the entire lake since it is roughly in middle of the expanse of the lake. My family has a place on Monkey Island and we love all it has to offer!
This is as tough a golf course as a amateur wants to play. A very nice combination of difficulty and playability for a golfer of any skill level. Five different tee boxes provide enjoyment. As well a maintained course as I have played. Service is good, course is fun and Grand Lake is an added attraction thrown in for free!
The reviews listed here are talking about two different places. The "resort" is down the road from the Summit restaurant. The picture listed with Shangri-La Resort on TripAdvisor is actually the new building on the golf course with the Summit restaurant, Buffalo Bar, and pro shop in it. The Summit restaurant is in this gorgeous building on the newly redesigned golf course with 27 holes (and white sand!). The restaurant is high end with very delicious food, beautiful views, and friendly staff.I have never been to the "resort" but it's a multi-story hotel building that has been there for over 30 years. It's completely separate from the restaurant, so please remember that when looking up and comparing reviews! We recently purchased a family lake house on Monkey Island and enjoy the Summit & Buffalo Bar. As for the "resort" it sounds like they may need to update it to make it comprable to the rest of the island...everything else has been redesigned and looks beautiful!!
While I agree that the Roadhouse Restaurant was great, unfortunately it closed again last season. These restaurants located on remote Monkey Island suffer from a very short season, basically from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The winters here are great, but no tourists come.
They have ruined what was once a classy place. The cheap construction is the first hint at what awaits you.. the food is awful and horribly overpriced. There are better restaurants all around the lake. The Road House is top notch!
This is NOT a resort. It is old, not updated in a VERY long time. You do have the water views but, the rest is much left to be desired. Even the restaurant is outdated, even the food. Yuk
Beautiful resort!! We've watched as it has changed over the years and it is really awesome! Great views and wonderful staff!
