Very nice but probably better in the winter and spring. We did not see any raptors. However enjoyed the hike through the prairie.
I'm in two minds about reviewing this. I like turning people on to great experiences, but what if this gets popular? I've been hiking these hills since long before the Nature Conservancy got a hold of them. I was so pleased however when they became owners. Now someone won't do something stupid like put a mobile home on the top or carve a road to the top for no purpose like they do in so many other parts of Wallowa County. Rant over. Awesome hike, world class views as long as Washington, Oregon or Siberia aren't on fire. If you can catch the short window when the wild flowers are out, do. Another awesome way to enjoy this country is to bike from town out the road towards Hat Point, take a right on the dirt road that angles off between the middle and southwestern butte. Take the road over the breaks and head down Camp Creek road that eventually dumps you out on the Imnaha highway. A spectacular ride, but you'll probably want to get a ride back up from Imnaha. Have frequently seen elk in this area. A guest of ours once saw a cougar sitting on a huge tree limb overhanging Camp Creek road (as she biked underneath). And of course there are the raptors - lots of them. Enjoy!
Although grasses were still brown, the views from this Jem are more than worth it. Roads are decent with the exception of the last few miles. Take time to do a hike or two, otherwise you are missing the point.
