We first stopped at the ranger station who gave us a map. They let us know that we were going on a busy day. The fee campground was full. We arrived to a full parking lot with kind people, they looked questionable. As we crossed the bridge it was a breathtaking looking up and down the river we hiked up and to the right. The hand rail was great. We saw nude people who were courteous around our 7 yearold. We did not see or smell any pot or alcohol. it was also very clean no garbage of butts. We have been twice and will continue to go back.If you're concerned about inappropriate activities make lots of noise when cresting the hill by the springs.
If you haven´t ever washed your socks and dried them close to the fire, this isn´t the place for you. It is a ¨hippy¨place and all that that implies. No bad vibes if you mind your own business and enjoy the location and the HOT water. The best time to go is Jan thru March. Not too many people and since there is not a cold water source to cool off close by the cold winter air makes it possible to cool off if you over heat.
The hot Springs are awesome! Very relaxing in a beautiful setting. Steep but short hike to reach them. The one problem is the crowd that it attracts. A lot of "seasonal" people live at the campground and around it all summer long. I would recommend it for the day but to stay at the campground.
I have been to the hot spring a couple times in the 20+ years I have lived in Oregon. I thought maybe the second time would be better than the first. Nope! If you enjoy hanging around almost nude to completely nude intoxicated people with the smell of Marijuana in the mountain air, then this place is perfect. Also, nothing like having some discarded garbage left behind to decorate the area. As far as going in the water, I have never been in the water. Bacteria loves warm water. There might be some decent people that actually frequent the hot springs, but second time is the charm for me. I will not be going back.
Huge potholes getting there. About 20 dirty, scary feeling, grifters with their kids, dogs and chickens. Felt unsafe. We left.
Beautiful, drive. Commune with nature. When you pack it in remember to pack it out. Not handicap accessible. Almost a year around trail. Swim Suits are optional.
I love a soak in the Umpqua Hot Springs after a long week of camping. It's not a long hike, but it's a pretty intense one. There's a sign on the bathrooms before you head up warning about possible nudity. This is Oregon, and we love being one with nature. So yes, you will most likely end up seeing some naked, pot smoking, hippies.. Get over it, get in a tub, and soak your cares away in some breathtakingly beautiful natural hot springs.
This is a beautiful place...just the drive to get there is awesome..but if you are not in good shape for hiking, this is one you might want to leave for this for the more agile. But if you feel left out don't, just keep going up the road and driving, there is so much up there to see like the water flume way up at the top of the mountain. I don't know where the road ends we went so far we turned around where we could and were very satisfied. Tokettee is the name of the place I think.
If you enjoy catching old forest hippies hanging out in the hot springs smoking weed and drinking all day because they have no jobs or anything else going on...this is the place for you. If you don't like any of the aforementioned things...skip it and save yourself the hike. There are numerous beautiful waterfalls in this area that don't have naked hippies/druggies hanging out at them.
As part of our Oregon roadtrip, we visited the Umpqua Hot Springs. We went early in the morning. When we arrived, there was a Grizzley Adams charactor soaking in the main pool, smoking a ciggie with his dog nearby. We hopped into another pool until Mr. Adams decided he had enough. Unfortunately he left his filter butts behind for someone else (us) to remove. Aside from this, the place is beautiful, the water comfortable and egress/degress easy enough.
The place smells like weed and alcohol, and is a dump.People are naked, that probably shouldn't be naked. Its a out of the way hang out for druggys and hippies freaks who think its still 1967.The war is over .. avoid unless you wanna catch something.
We hiked like 6 miles to find this all natural hot springs and I was very disappointed. I had my 11 year old with me and EVERYONE was naked. I didn't know as I am new to the area. People were making out and it was really gross. We will not be going back.
We are very outdoorsy and like to do something fun and romantic. We decided we would take a trip to the springs and weren't disappointed. We took 4wd and needed it to get up the roads that were mostly plowed but slushy here and there. There is a parking area at the trailhead with a sign warning visitors about nudity. The trail crosses a creek with a makeshift bridge - we suggest bringing a flash lite because the mountains, trees and clouds made for a shady trek, but the trail itself was well maintained considering the season. The pools were wonderful and we enjoyed sitting under the overhang built over the largest pool while the snow drifted by! Awesome
Dirty and gross! We were so disappointed to see the condition of this place! Don't waste the gas and try Stewart Hot Springs just north of Shasta City in Calif.
The assortment of characters one encounters in the springs, on the way up, on the way down and in the parking lot are worth the trip in and of itself. A beautiful place.
