Stop in at Longplay and enjoy a tasting. Tod's a great guy to talk to and his wine is delicious and highly rated. A tasting flight won't break your budget like it will at some of the estates out in the country, and the tasting room is a comfortable place to linger, with couches and tables. The vineyard is northeast of Newberg at the foot of Bald Peak. There are other vineyards in that area, and some with tasting rooms, but you'll have to go into town to try Tod's wine. I think that's great because I live in town and can walk to Longplay. My favorite at the moment is Lia's Vineyard 2009 Jory Bench Reserve, but I know he's letting people try out the new 2011 vintage, too.
We dropped into the tasting room last Memorial Day Weekend, intrigued by the description written in the weekend wine guide (analog wine for a digital world). We liked the taste & were going to buy just one bottle; but, Todd mentioned that he had just started a wine club (we already belong to 4 & had sworn off entering into more). When he told me the price & that for members that weekend shipping was $1...I gave him my cr. card straight away.Since then, his Lia's Vineyard Pinot Noir (named after his daughter, Lia) received 92 pts from Wine Spectator...pretty good for a small & newish winery.Todd takes a personal interest in making sure out wine arrives when we want it to & even sent us a Christmas card he signed himself. We like the wine alot & hope he continues to produce more.Well worth a visit when in Newberg.
