Anam Cara owned by Nick and Sheila Nicholas was such a pleasant surprise. You wouldn't guess it from driving into the parking lot of the tasting room on Hwy 240. Once you step into the door, you're greeted with a warm and beautiful living and dining room setting. Heather and Mark, the grown children of the Nicholas's, were taking care of the front room. They were gracious, friendly and knowledegable about the wines and grapes of their house and of the valley. The first tasting was the Dry Riesling. I've never heard of a dry Riesling and don't care for sweet wines. This blew my mind. It was dry and mildly complex. Definitely a must have in the fridge to be served with or without food. This house carries a few Pinot Noirs, which the valley is known for. One of the reasons to stop by and check them out is to taste the different styles. It starts with a simple and very easy to drink Pinot Noir for those new to wine drinking to a beautifully complex dance in your mouth Pinor that is wonderful and worth every penny. The prices are reasonable and I had them shipped to me in Arizona. I purchased them on a Friday and recieved them on the following Thursday. I've already opened both and they taste as good as they did in the tasting room.If you happen to be in Newberg, I think you'll be happy that you stopped into the tasting room of Anam Cara. Thank you for posting. Very glad you enjoyed your visit. We make it our mission to educate and inform guests about Oregon wines across the region ... while showcasing some of the best!
Great little winery off the 240 in Newberg. Even if this place isn't located on a vineyard, it is definitely worth stopping to enjoy three great Pinot noir, an excellent Riesling and and absolutely delightful Gewürztraminer. The tasting is very relaxed and enjoyable. The price points on the wines are very good as well.
Worth a stop. Cute little place with pretty good wines! The owner was really nice too. They sell some cute items and have a nice comfy sitting area.
While we tended towards the picturesque vineyards during our Willamette tour, we stopped by Anam Cara's tasting room at the recommendation of a friend. Sheila is so welcoming and provides a great introduction to her background in wine and to the Valley. Among $50+ Pinots, her wines in the 20's and 30's really stood up and provided a great option to ship home in quantity. Don't miss this stop as you're passing through Newberg (great before or after lunch at the Red Hills Market!)
