white pine public museum

The museum has a lot of history of the area. Took about 30 min to go through. They have a back area with cabins, school house, and water drilling machine, etc. It is donation based. Very friendly and helpful people.

A great variety of items depicting the history of Ely and surrounding area, including an ancient cave bear (massive skeleton) from about 12,000 years ago.Besides the packed main building, there is also a schoolhouse, train station (with agents' residence attached) all furnished with period items, and various mining and town equipment from the late 1800s and early 1900s.The staff member was friendly and explained in detail any questions we had. We also learned the towns' name is pronounced 'Ee-lee' not 'Ee-lie' and we had thought.

Covers the history of the area, with a lot of mining information. Has old buildings from the area to walk through. No admission fee, just donations. I'd recommend it if you have a free hour or two in Ely.

We have been stopping in Ely for many years but the museum was never open. Well this trip the museum was open and we were't going to miss it. The square footage is rather small but it is packed with appropriate for Ely and White Pine County. The Cave Bear was very interesting as were all the other exhibits. It is well worth at least an hour or so of your time if you're in the area.

Interesting collections of a lot of stuff. From dolls, to rocks, to mining videos, to the Cave Bear. The X-ray machine was fascinating. Just odd ball stuff in need of $$ for better displays. Don't go out of your way for this place, but if you've got extra time or want to take a break from the road stop here. You can also get your Rte 50 book stamped here.They don't have a set price to pay, but want a "donation" for entry.
