The theatre, originally a vaudeville venue, has been lovingly restored through a dedicated foundation. It offers a variety of entertainment: music of different genres, plays, local competitions, foreign films. Easy parking, painless admission prices. I urge you to pay a visit. Check the schedule online. Once you try it, you will be impressed.
Check this place out on weekends you may get a chance to see Chinese acrobats or a live comedy show, music specials, ballets, or watch a foreign film or Classic film. It may surprise you when you step into this beautiful old theater set in Downtown Antioch just above the San Joaquin River
This is a wonderful seeting, lovingly refurbished ( one of the very few things done right in my city of Antioch) and just as lovingly managed by Rick Carraher, a local icon who has given his all to our city. Rick has booked many wonderful performances, by a variety of groups and genres, and it is great to be able to stay local when you want good entertainment. My one problem, however, is Rick's obsession with "cover", or "tribute" acts. I don't know if it's because they're cheaper, but how many "tribute" bands can there be? I mean, the original John Denver was good, but difficult to watch for long, so a Denver "tribute" performance? Please.....and the Pink Flloyd "tribute" act(s)? Enough, already. So, come and enjoy the venue. Enjoy a "tribute" act. Just don't expect much originality
This was our fourth visit to El Campanil to attend a live stage show, and each time is more enjoyable than the previous. The quality of the productions is truly amazing or such a small town, and is a testament to the superior managment and theatrical organizatonal skills of the Exec Director, Rick Carraher! The theater has been marvelously re-furbished to look as luxurious as it did when Sally Rand performed there many, many years ago. The ticket prices are very reasonable, especially for the excellent quality of the wide variety of productions presented. Several local eateries in close proximity so we often make a date-night out of it. We'll be back!!
The theater is a trip back into time, when theater cared about they looked. Ever month they dedicate a week-end to show a foreign film.
