I wanted to Love this place and I found it just so so.The hostess was passionate about this restaurant. Very refreshing!Service was a bit slow to start, Chardonnay was very good.Food? Ho hum. We had the shrimp which lacked true depth, roasted beet salad that tried real hard to be cooly unconstructed but just missed the flavor mark. Patata, which is glorified cottage fries with several tasteless sauces, artichoke flat bread, yawn... and the cauliflower which was fantastic. The ambiance is hip but stark, our table was a poorly constructed wine barrel with a wobbly tabletop which was too narrow to put your legs under. The experience was just ok. Not stellar. I won't be rushing back.

We enjoyed the cab franc wine. I would definitely go back to try other items. The restaurant closed fairly early and last call was promptly called. The atmosphere on the patio was fun with fire pits. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, but seemed rushed.

We like to come here to hang out and have some snacks wine and listen to the music that they frequently have. Everything we have had to eat or drink has been very good.

This is a diamond in the rough. You cannot buy their wines any where but here and membership is free. What it gets you is 6 free samples every time you go and you have to purchase one bottle of wine a month. The only issues is the parking. Arrive early or forget it. It opens up onto the costal highway so there is no ocean view

Drop by this recently opened restaurant. Contemporary outdoor fireplace, garage doors with wine barrel and bar interior. Buys on a Sunday evening. They produce their own wine, and its quite good. We enjoyed a comparing wine vintages, with half glass offerings. We ate all tapas and enjoyed having a wide selection. Scallops large and perfectly cooked. Pancetta wrapped, stuffed dates yumm. Octopus salad had the paprika and bean Spanish flair. And the lamb with fresh mint lovely...though though the romesco sauce lovely....preferred it separate from the lamb...perhaps with some fresh bread instead. Indulged in the flour less chocolate cake...and thought the cinnamon and balsamic reduction set it off perfectly. A bit far for a regular event, but an enjoyable place. Windows open onto the sidewalk, and we sat at high tables in bar. Could be a bit noisy from street, but liked the bar side vs. the table side. Go see and try.

We're happy that Solterra has opened up in our neighborhood (Leucadia, just north of Encinitas, on PCH). Its a great place to sit and people watch while enjoying some authentic spanish style tapas including two types of Paella. We especiall like the Scallops and the lamb chops. The wines range from potable to very potable (Good) and there are a lot of variatel choices. Pretty much something for every palate. But if your not a wine aficionado they also have a good selection of beers. Please just don't make it too popular!

This new restaurant/winery is actually in Leucadia, not Encinitas. On advice of our daughter who lives in Carlsbad we decided to try Solterra out. They have live music in-house on Friday & Saturday nights - the whole place is quite large, decorated very nicely and good ambiance for both diners & drinkers. The food was great - especially the Heirloom Beet Salad and Stuffed Dates. The service was super and the staff friendly and wine knowledgeable. We will definitely be back next time in North County.

Such an unexpected pleasure on historic Coast Hwy 101 in Leucadia/Encinitas. Newly opened and I hope it stays for a long time. Lovely wine selection by the bottle, glass, half-glass. Good bites to get with the wine too. Barry is the proprietor and a great guy - does the bartending. Some nice draft beers on tap too. Definitely recommend afternoon, evening or night for a great local spot.
