diamond valley lake

Travelled from Palm Springs to DVL for the half marathon event. The event is very well done and the drive to DVL is quite nice. The lake itself is beautiful although I'm not sure what someone would do here without a boat. I was there for the race, of course, and it was a challenging enough course over winding, gravel, road hugging the valley hills high above the lake. However, there is no cover from the sun which means it can be pretty warm. Be aware of this that there is little shelter from the sun and heat if you're going to spend time here. I imagine being on the lake itself is a nice quiet way to spend a day.I did see a store setup on site.

Hard to believe that this lake was man made. You get a perspective of how the water levels have dropped over the years as you can see the ring marks left by previous.

Although everything from license to access to boat rental add considerable cost to the overall experience, Diamond Valley Lake is great for Bass fishing. Once on the lake, there are endless opportunities to hook up on a lunker. During the spawn you can find male bass in the shallows protecting nests. Get yourself a nice pair of polarized glasses and you'll see them hovering over the best. Just drop a white jig or tube and wait for the aggressive make to strike.

The beautiful water and its a storage place for the peoples. Well taken care of and nice fishing. Nice folks to assist you and direct you to the best spots.

I visited Diamond Valley Lake today and I thought it was beautiful. We were just passing through to check it out on a road trip somewhere else. When we pulled in the parking lot there was no one to take our money so we just parked. Later in the store, we found out that there is rarely anyone at the booth and that you just pay at the store but the nice woman just told us not to worry about it since we were just looking around. I thought it was beautiful and there weren't many boats. Well there was a handful of trailers so boats were out there somewhere but we didn't see them. They had nice little picnic tables even on the hiking trails. We checkout out the trail which looks flat and nice-the woman at the store told us that it was over 20 miles long. I got a little freaked about a sign about what to do if you happen to encounter a mountain lion but then again I am a city girl so I am sure there is no big deal. There were lots of people on mountain bikes and lots of families heading up the walking trail. I would love to go back one day. It was was very quiet although its a three day weekend and it was about 1 pm. It's a beautiful blue also. You can't get in the water at this lake.

Went for a walk across the dam and back,nice views but the water was down so low I don't think you could launch a boat. There were only 4 trucks with trailers at 1100 am. There were rental boats at the marina at the end of a very long and steep ramp. I think the hiking and biking trails would be better than trying to boat this lake

$7 to park your vehicle, $15 launch, $15 a day fishing licence... and the list goes on.endless list of rules : You are NOT allowed to... NOT NOT NOTinterestingly enough, the fees are much lower at other reservoirs / lakes in the area and no such stupid rules exist, so I have to assume this one is hell-bent of milking the snowbirds as much as they can. We decided to not use this "lake" for that reason.

You responded to the review re shore fishing by directed the reviewer to another lake. I too like to shore fish and find it strange that only a small area can be fished. Then you stated that the lake has 2.5 miles of shore fishing that is restricted. What are the restriction? You would think that some accomodation can be made that would satisfy the tree huggers while allowing tax and rate payers the opportunity to use the whole lake.

Dear sbfoster777, we are so sorry that the shore fishing fell below your expectations. We do have about 2 ½ miles of shoreline fishing but it's restricted use due in part because the land is considered a wildlife preserve. Our sister property, LIttle Lake does have shoreline access and you can drive up and park next to your favorite fishing spot. We will begin stocking this lake in October. Right now fishermen are catching Blue Catfish, Blue Gill and Bass (catch & release). This might be a better alternative to Diamond Valley Lake. This season has been especially challenging with fluctuating water levels. Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your experience. Beautiful area -- lots of places to hike - opens early in case you want to go there early in the morning.

I remember when this lake was built several years ago and we had never visited it until recently. We were very surprised at how nice it is. There is ample parking. Nice fishing and boat rentals are available. We also tried the hiking trails around the lake. They are scenic and not difficult. I recommend visiting this lake in April or May. A lot of the wild flowers are blooming and it really adds to the nice experience.

This is a nice well kept secret. One can fish here, rent boats, buy tackle, and get a nice haul. One can hike or jog or bike along the many trails. This is a beautiful man-made water reservoir that feels like you are out of the country when visiting. Down below the lake, is a "water-park" for children, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, picnic area, and a large park maintained by the City of Hemet. All of this is away from main traffic and congestion. Hey, I even took a picture of a UFO over the lake while hiking!

I love to hike the trails around the lake because you get some of the best views in town. Most of the trails would be considered very easy to easy. The most challenging trail is the 22 miles around the lake but only because of the distance -- there is very little elevation, so not a strenuous hike. I consider it a full day fun adventure. While I have been boating on the lake, it's okay if that's what you like to do. I much prefer walking around the lake. There are porta potties and water sources around the lake but you still want to bring your own water because there can be a distance between water sources. Also bring your camera to capture some of the most beautiful scenic views.

Best place in the area for joggers. No traffic, except for cyclists. 22 miles loop around the lake. Every mile is marked. Beautiful scenery. Must watch for snakes during Spring thru Fall. Usually not on the trail, but sunning themselves along the sides of the trail. Lots of other criters like rabbits, quail, lizards, hawks, even and ocassional Coyete or Trantula will be on the trail. Beautiful flowers in spring. You can even see the fish jump at times. Trail has lots of slight hills and turns. Very different than running on asphalt, although there is asphalt across th three dams. Much easier on your joints. Trail pass is $2.00 per visit or $25.00 for a year pass. You can park at the bottom at the Aquatic Center area for free and run or bike up the 1.5 mile hill, or pay $7.00 to park per visit, or $125.00 for year pass. Porty potties are very large and always clean throughout the trail. Must carry your own water and food.

Great place to fish or just to enjoy the scenery. If fishing enter on the east side. The west side has an excellent overlook with informative placards about its history. There is also shade for a picnic. The roads to both areas is curvy so drive carefully.
