While I did not actually experience the entire golf club it does have a lake that is adjacent to the hotel parking areas. I used the lake as a backdrop to take photos of my daughter in her theater costume.
The course is in good shape & is difficult. They keep a good separation of tee times so you don't have anyone behind you or ahead of you. Overall there are multiple tough holes with water hazards, high grass throughout the edges.I would play it again. One of the nicer courses in CA.
If you like your greens true and very fast, then head over to Barona Creek. The practice green will help, but since it is fairly flat, not as much as you need. It will take a few holes to adjust and you really have to study if you are downhill, because if you are, watch out. The fairways are also firm and fast, very much like a links style course, so be ready to hit your drives further than normal (20-30 yards of extra roll). There is quite a bit of sand, with a number of the greens very well protected and a number of fairways as well. A few water features, including the demanding closing holes (17-18). Generous landing areas on many holes make this a fun course to play - unless you are intimidated by very fast greens (11-12 on the stimpmeter?). Reduced rate after 11 AM and also for casino card holders (or just mention that you want one and they will give you the discount!).
The golf course is in GREAT condition. Fairways are tight grass, few divots, greens are generous and VERY tricky. Played 5 days from 6,200 yards and enjoyed the ego boost from a shorter course. Playing a set of tees back will make the course more difficult but very playable. Water on the course is complementary. Staff very professional. Golf carts had excellent GPS. Pro Shop well appointed. Would come back for GOLF ALONE. Unless you're a smoky casino person, there's not a lot else to do here but play golf.
A well-kept golf course with multiple tees for all skills. Well maintained, fast as lighteninng greens. Nice views and vista all around the course. Friendly staff and with a Players Card(free for the asking) a great round of golf for the money. Try the Twilight times for a reduced rate.
My wife and I just returned from a 3 day golf school at the Barona Resort and Casino.(April13-15)I'll start with the resort and casino. This resort and it's staff couldn't have been much better. The staff was friendly, efficient, and accommodating obviously very well trained. Our room was very nice with a few of the mountains and golf course. If you go here I recommend you not be on the second floor as iit leads to the casino and will have a lot of traffic. The restaurants were excellent. We ate two diners in the steakhouse, one in the Italian, breakfast and lunch in Sage.Food and service again was excellent our only complaint "too much food" as we are small people.Plenty of left overs for snacks the next day.We didn't gamble so I can't say much about the casino except it was large, some smoke free area's and no alcohol. The casino was busy and it looked like people were having a good time. The golf school was run by,"United states golf schools and travel".I've been to four golf schools and feel qualified to compare. The success of a golf school will depend mostly on your instructor. Our instructor ,Steve Bean was excellent.Steve was knowledgeable and thankfully very patient. We worked hard but had plenty of fun, there were "hugs" all round when we left. The golf course was very nice and in good shape for this time of year.If your looking to improve your game at a reasonable price I recommend this schoolKen and Garnet.,
After taking a 4 day golf school with Southern California Golf Schools I would highly suggest that if you a golfer and want a first class golf school at a very affordable price you should call them. They have a great package at the Barona Golf Resort & Casino in San Diego.ThanksStan Brown
I first played golf at Barona Creek in the summer of 2008 and was impressed with the whole set up. I did not write a review at the time but feel having revisited again in 2011 that I need to pass on this excellent resort. From the moment you arrive at bag drop the whole golf experience is very professional, the pro shop is well stocked with quality clothing, with the staff most obliging and helpful. For your $80.00 you get your green fee on a top quality golf course, (which has held a PGA event) cart complete with ice and bottles of water and you can hit as many balls as you like on the range before you start.Back to the golf course, this is indeed a quality test on a course that is always in excellent condition from tee to green it is difficult to find fault. It can be however a tough test, but with 5 sets of tee's it does accommodate for most handicap levels, but it is not a course for beginners. When you have completed your game there is a decent bar where you can have a beer and something to eat.So if you are staying in the San Diego area and looking for a game I do recommend a trip out through Wildcat Canyon to Barona, it is worth it.Dorsetdon
Very nice course. Lots of trouble, but worth it. Now the problem. We played two days. Thursday was a delight. They only sell beer on the front nine only two to a person at a time. That worked great on day one, as the beer cart stopped by quite often. Day two was another story. Different cart person on day two. She stopped by on the third hole, but only have 3 Budweisers. No problem. She was to get more an come back. Didn't see her again until the turn. We complained to the manager, but it didn't matter. No more beer. So, Take your own beer and you'll have a great time, even if you get the young lady that has no brain.
This was a real find. I frequently enjoy golfing while on business trips. This place gives you the added bonus of being able to gamble afterwards! First, the weekday fee of $80 was terrific for what I would call one of the more interesting, scenic courses I have ever played. Carved out of hardscrabble Indian reservation, loaded with boulders, this course gives you playable, interesting golf without being too tricked up.After the round, I mosied into the casino and within 10 minutes of sitting down for blackjack, I was offered free dinner. The buffett was excellent, I busted a gut on that one.About 35-45 minutes from downtown San Diego, this was a terrific find!
