I've been stopping at this bookstore for year. Great books about the area. You can find history, cultural geographical and maps and guides of the area. I have also bought wooden inexpensive walking sticks that I have had for over 10 years. Knowledgeable staff and money goes to a GOOD cause. They have a bathroom. A good respite.
Very small, but informative. It has items to purchase. The staff was very personable. The free movie on Mono Lake was a surprise. We were not aware of the movie and the staff asked if we would like to see it. We were the only people in the center at the time and we were invited us to watch the movie. Make sure to see it. It is very informative. We were unaware of Mono Lake prior to visiting this Info. Center. We were in the area only to get to Yosemite, but after visiting the info. center, wished we had extra time to spend the area and to visit Mono Lake. If you are planning to stay in Lee Vining as your entrance into or exit out of Yosemite, plan to visit this info. center, watch the movie, and then plan to spend a little additional time visiting Mono Lake. You may not need a full day, but we wished we had been aware of Mono Lake prior to our stay in Lee Vining and learning about Mono Lake at this center. Lee Vining is the town and at most it is 1/4 mile long! It is very small and the info. center could easily be missed. Don't miss it! Enjoy a brief stop and learn about Mono Lake. Plus, it is free!
We enjoyed our visit here and the staff were able to direct us to the best parts of the lake for our quick visit
They have the most update info about Mono Lake's current conditions. Also have a nice selection of books and maps. Friendly, knowledgeable staff.
Worth a visit to understand the area, the history of the lake and local crafts.Friendly and informative.
The staff here are much friendlier than the crew at the nearby Visitor Center. I like staying in Lee Vining a couple nights so we can check out both places extensively. It would be a shame to have only quick in and out visits. Very informative about the whole region. Clean "green", water saving restrooms. One of the only free WiFi areas too. Thanks Guys!
If you're into birds and nature, be sure to stop in! We learned all about the Mono Lake and the surrounding area. We were happy to learn that the lake is on the road to recovery; such an interesting story! Love me some brine shrimp! ;-)
Been a member of the Mono Lake Committee for over 20 years, and always check in at the IC/Bookstore whenever I'm in the Eastern Sierra...even if it's just to check on the latest books, maps, t-shirts. Nice people, doing good.
After losing our cell service we stopped to get some paper maps but go so much more! They gave us a quick rundown of the best places to take photos, hike, get more info, plus how much fees are at different locations. Extremely helpful and friendly service.
Good information about the history of Mono Lake and the movement to restore it. Also, some very nice gifts to purchase with the money going to support the work of the Save Mono Lake group.
The views from the visitor center of the Lake is outstanding. There is a bookshop and area history exhibit covering several rooms and the are numerous observation points from the deck. Ample parking and helpful visitor information guides.
If you are visiting Mono Lake and the surrounding area, this is a must stop. We randomly popped in because we couldn't find the Mono Lake RV Park, and left with a wonderful town map, booklet, and a wealth of excellent information. I've seriously never been to a more helpful information center. Their short 30-min video shares the story of Mono Lake and it is both informative and so touching - it's definitely gives you a new perspective on the lake. Definitely worth the time to watch. They also offer a bunch of free educational activities, including a great walking tour. It is clear that the staff there care deeply about Mono Lake and are excited to share it with you (Jessica is the best). I plan on becoming a member myself : )
We had a canoe trip planned on the lake for the next day and stopped in here out of curiosity. So glad we did. They have a great film explaining the history and geology of the lake and how it was saved by the community. This really enhanced our visit to the lake the following day.
Lots of great information on Mono Lake and the history about it - great place to stop before going to the lake.
Bookstore had lots of cute items for kids and souvenirs. Found some good info for kids on the wildlife for them. The little info and museum was interesting and entertaining for the kids. Thanks!
