Liked the wine tasting experience. Staff was friendly and helpful. Sits immediately next to an old school house and has some views over the vinyards.Didn't like that my GPS took me off in an opposite direction and we wondered about 10 miles out of our way on some really narrow roads. Someone elses GPS did the same thing so be careful finding this place if you use GPS.
There a thousands of wineries to visit in California and this is one of the best; definitely our favorite in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The wines are all solidly made, drink well with food and are an exceptional value. The wine club prices are a bargin. A visit to the tasting room is pure fun with a great staff. All of their wines have a school themed name like "Dean's List", "Detention", etc which is a little corny but part of the fun.
This winery in the Santa Cruz Mountains is still a hidden gem and their wines barely make it out of the Bay Area since they are so popular in the vicinity. After coming here for several wine tastings I had to sign-up for their wine club since all their wines are superb. Whether you like crisp or smooth whites or fruity or heavy reds Burrell has it all.One of my personal favorites is the Old School wine that goes perfect with pasta dishes. Besides the great wines the location is unique. Burrell is located within a historic school building on Summit Road (at HWY 17). From the patio you have a scenic view over the vineyard and Santa Cruz Mountains, a perfect location to enjoy a picnic. The staff is fun to chat with and they really enjoy having you at the winery. Overall compared with other wineries in the area Burrell is one of the most joyful places to taste wines.
The hostess was friendly. The wine was good enough to buy. Some of the wine was good enough to buy. I had a case sent to the house. It is ready to drink and Thanksgiving is just weeks away. The place is cute and there is a lovely view.
The wines are good, and it really is an old rural school house. Sit out on the deck, enjoy the view and sample some very nice wines.
You meet the owners, try their wine and walk around - we found it on one of our Sunday drives.
Nice usage of an old schoolhouse, very friendly staff. Wine was good, and certainly worth a stop when doing a winery tour along Summit Road, however, not our first or second choice.
We visited this weekend and found a neat little historical building (schoolhouse), with an adjacent winery that had a magnificent view of the Santa Cruz Mountains looking west. The wine was good as well as interesting, however, I wasn't too impressed with the wine pourers. Perhaps they were just really busy and having a bad day, but they weren't very informative or forthcoming with information. Don't let this stop you from experiencing it though. One thing that was interesting was a pinot they had that was strikingly similar to Praeger Port Works' "Aria", which had a wonderful hint of nuttiness. These are the only two wines i've had like this. Definitely a must see / taste!
