The guided tour was interesting as was the method of moving the horses (natural method). The "ride" was fine as long as you don't mind the animals only walking. The horses seemed to stumble constantly in the dessert as well.
Not a bad layout, pretty short but nice rolling hills and condition pretty good. Couple strong holes, 10th hole was interesting, fun elevated par 3. But definitely plays short. Worthwhile as long as price is right.
Just spent a couple of nights with Jacklyn at her ranch and rescue centre. Managed to fit in three trail rides all different, interesting and most of all very enjoyable. If you are a first time horse back rider or experienced Jacklyn has a horse to suit. She is a fantastic guide and if you want to know anything relating to horses or the area and it's wildlife and plants she is the lady in the know. I've returned many times in the past 10 years this is a special place where you can get lost in the tranquillity of the valley.
My daughter and I rode with Jaclyn and her granddaughter along gentle beautiful horse trails. We really appreciated Jaclyn's natural approach to horse training. The horses were gentle and extremely well behaved. Jaclyn was a knowledgable guide. She pointed out the names of local flora. We had a fantastic experience. Highly recommended.
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our ride in the desert. We had wonderful horses, wonderful instruction and beautiful scenery! My husband and I are not experienced riders only riding at a state park on occasion and our children had never ridden before. I could not have asked for a more enjoyable first experience for my children. Thank you Jacklyn for a wonderful experience and the love you show to all of your animals!
We found Jacklyns website and booked our ride already while in Europe. Throughout the process, Jacklyn was very helpful and communicative, even when our plans had to change. We came for a 2 hour morning ride and loved every minute. I have ridden for many years in Europe but like the American way, and my partner rode in his youth and would like to do more, but often does not like the way horses are treated. We looked into some other places to ride in the Palm Springs / Joshua Tree area, but they felt too much like tourist factories, and we did not want to go there not knowing about how the horses were really treated. No such problem here! Jacklyn is amazing, she treats her horses and her many dogs with great love, care and attention, but also with great respect. She shows you how to do it too, and it is simple and effective. This means the horses are more alive and awake, and you feel as if you are not just going along a horse that is bored and halfasleep, but you really do it in partnership. Our horses were calm and easy but also responding and real. The 2 hr ride could have gone on for days as far as I was concerned, the landscape was breathtaking and the horses a lot of fun. Jacklyn gave us interesting information as we rode, about plants and the area, pointing out things to see. She runs an excellent ranch, it is very inspiring to see how she works and how she is able to offer help to horses other people would abandon. I did not get the feeling for one moment that these were rescue horses, they were in good shape and with good spirits. Jacklyn took us on a relaxing ride as my partner is not so experienced, but she can also tailor the ride to people who want to go faster. I would recommend this to anyone with an interest in horses, animals or simply experiencing the landscape from a different perspective, and I would not go anywhere else for my horseriding. She is a great character, giving you a very rounded memorable experience well worth the money. This was so much more than just a trail ride, and one of the highlights of our visit to Palm Springs.
My afternoon desert ride with Jacklyn was a gift. Her horses are lovely and loved. Her two white shepherds were endlessly entertaining and clearly devoted. The area is divine - peaceful and good for the soul. I've been on many trail rides - but this one was so much more...loved it!
If you don't mind paying top dollar for the privilege of exercising Jacklyn's broken-down "rescue" horses, or the requirement to use portable plastic steps to get yourself into the saddle, this may be the outfit for you. It's totally for beginners with no eye for a sound horse, or the difference between groomed and un-groomed. Not for pre-teen beginners, though. My almost-nine year old daughter, who is tall for her age, spent two hours with her feet dangling because there was no saddle with stirrups short enough to fit her. My wife was on a foundered mount whose main interest was crowding into brush along the trail, perhaps to relieve the itch of a shaggy hide. And forget about a refund if you're unhappy about stumbling into this mess. Jacklyn takes your credit card information as a precaution when you reserve, then demands full cash in advance before you ride (including an obligatory "gratuity" of more than 18%).
After a couple of nights at the 29 Palms Inn we wanted to treat our nine year old daughter to a little horseback riding. On a total whim we called up Jacklyn at Crazy Horse Ranch and got a trail ride and a room. So glad we did! Jacklyn made us right at home, showing us around the ranch, giving us plenty of carrots for the many, many horses, and introducing us to the cats, dogs, chickens, and goats. We had a great breakfast in her home the next morning and then set off on a trail ride. I loved her way with the horses- 'natural' riding, I think she called it. She gave a great lesson and the ride was beautiful. I hope we make it back down that way again.
We had a great trail ride from the Crazy Horse. Jacklyn was very patient with us and obviously is passionate about her horses and informing her customers about natural horsemanship. She spent a lot of time with us before the ride explaining what we had to do to work with the horses so we all (especially the horses) could enjoy the ride. We all requested hard hats and there were plenty available which fit well. We were all fairly inexperienced and she matched us with our horses very well. Thank you for a great morning, Jacklyn - we enjoyed it very much.
Our family comes to the Palm Springs area a couple of times each year. We have long talked about going horseback riding in the region and finally found the time today to do it. After looking into the various options, we decided on Crazy Horse Ranch because we were intrigued by the philosophy of the owner, Jacklyn, who takes a natural approach to training horses. We were also very impressed with the idea that the ranch was a horse rescue facility. The car ride up to Morongo Valley was breathtaking and worth every mile to get to the Ranch. When we arrived, the horses were ready for our arrival. Jacklyn was very patient and great with every member of our party. She spent some time talking about communicating with the horses and how to ride them safely. Having been on a good number of trail rides, I have to say that this was the best introduction to horses and trail riding that I have every received. Our entire party felt very comfortable and in quite capable hands. We found a good rate for the ride through PalmSprings.com ($45/hr). This is an excellent deal and there were no issues with that rate when we arrived. If there was ever an issue with helmets at this facility, it is not an issue now. There were helmets, in good condition and adjustable, for all members of our party. The trail ride itself was very relaxing and unhurried. The landscape, Jacklyn herself as guide and the patient horses created a wonderful trail ride experience. Our daughter owns a horse and had a number of questions for Jacklyn about natural horse training (she is classically trained in English riding) and Jacklyn spent about an hour entertaining her questions and providing constructive advice. She is very excited about having some new skills to take home and work on with her horse. Truly, we cannot wait to go back the next time we are in the area. If you are in the desert area, please give Jacklyn a call. You will have a wonderful horseback riding experience to cherish for years to come.
My husband and I really enjoyed our time at the Crazy Horse Ranch. The horses and cats stole my heart. We had a great horse ride Jacklyn is very nice and smart she knows her animals. She taught us a lot and this was a real horse ride. The price was very good I looked around and for a private ride this was the best price I found. Also she rescues the animals so not only are you having a good time your helping a good cause. I would defiantly visit again if I am in the Palm Springs/Morongo Valley area and maybe even stay at her B&B.
this is a real ranch, not a cheesy tourist trap with heads-down horses. jacklyn works with rescue horses (some) and returns them to 'air touch'. i have always ridden western which is quite disrespectful of horses, with all the pulling and kicking them when they really are so articulate if not treated poorly. i always left a good gratuity towards the upkeep as anyone taking on rescue animals also takes on quite a financial burden, too. loved the cabin, excellent coffee with cinnamon, eggs from her own hens, could hear the horses knickering in the night and beyond that, just peace of the desert. she adapted lessons to what i wanted to learn - brushing, how to move around them, riding naturally. hope to return!
I loved every moment of being at Crazy Horse Ranch. I am not American and the chance to spend some days staying on a ranch was such a thrill for me. Jacklyn was amazing and cared for my friend and I every step of the way. She was kind and patient and an amazing horse woman. What a relief to ride somewhere that the horses are not deadened trail horses. This is why I chose to come. I wanted to ride rather just sit on a horse. The horses are so gentle and sweet at the ranch. I feel in love with many of them and having had a fear of horses in the past was surprised at how relaxed I felt there. The riding was awesome. Through trails. I loved it.My friend and I stayed in the beautiful accommodation cabins. What a treat to stay in such nice accommodation on the ranch. There is no question I will come back here again. I loved it and feel like Palm Springs now has a piece of my heart.
My husband and I absolutely had the best horse riding experience with Jackie. She is thorough and kind. The horses are beautiful and very mellow for beginners. We had a private tour in the canyon for 2 hrs, which costs us total of $220 including tip. The mountains are breath taking. The trip is so relaxing and enjoyable. She also has 3 nice cabins to rent range from $75/night to $115/night. So many rescued animals are happy and friendly to visitors. We'll definitely visit again and likely stay with her next time.
