Enjoyed the view of the lake and the memorial to John F Kennedy, the location of his last dedication before his assassination. A nice little gift shop with very friendly and helpful staff. We came back another day to rent a pontoon boat at the local marina...now that was a wonderful experience! A hot sunny afternoon cursing around the gorgeous lake, swimming off the side of the boat in the refreshingly cool water. Great place for family and friends to relax and enjoy.
One afternoon I spend on a lovely beach at whiskey town lake. What a lovely and peaceful place. Very friendly people were there and everybody seemed to be very chilled and relaxed. Loved this place. Geese family walking on my blanket really nice...
We had a great day on the water. The only down side was the wait at the boat launch both coming and going.
Beautiful scenery.Wonderful trails, variety of easy to difficult.Public restrooms available at most trails.Clear water, and some lovely beach areas.Highly recommend for a morning/afternoon out.
My favorite lake in this area is Whiskeytown. So clean and cold, my family has enjoyed many wonderful days at this local treasure!
Many places to go, lots of things to see and do. Try renting a boat if you don't have one and visit one of the many lakes. Hiking, camping, fishing, boating....great fun!
The lake is stinky and polluted with stagnant water and goose droppings in the water at the swimming area. Many of the kids got sick after swimming here. Mosquitos are huge and plentiful. The campgrounds have almost no lighting. Do yourself a favor and drive a little further to Shasta, Trinity or parts North.
Another one of Northern California lakes that have alot to offer all who come to visit. Hiking, boating, fishing and all out just fun to go and enjoy the outdoors with your family and friends.
There are many areas to the park so I suggest stopping and getting a map. The Tower House historical area is a great place for a picnic.
The Shasta/Whiskeytown/Trinity National Recreational area offers so much...whether it hiking....biking....or just exploring....you will find it there!
This is our stomping ground and we grew up in this area...and we LOVE it. It does not feel like CA....more like WY. It is a growing area but is still filled great people and lovey sights. Lakes, streams, backpacking, horse back riding, camping, hunting and fishing. You name it. Not so much for city people but for the people that love country....it's wonderful.
Whiskeytown Lake is small and although the water appears pure and clean it's tainted by pollution, especially over in the Black Buttom area.Shasta is presently experiencing some very low water levels due to the Powers that be that are increasing the flow downstream to the Farmers below. At least that's their excuse. Turning a majestic lake into a huge mud hole by the end of August when we could seriously use that water to fight our annual wildland fires each year.Trinity is beautiful, but also suffers by the hands of the same Powers that be who are controlling the water levels at Lake Shasta. Trails are average around the lakes. They do tend to them when the budget allows.
We hiked to Whiskeytown Falls. A very nice cascading water fall. The hike isn't to long, but the trail did have some ice areas in February.
Great place to spend the day, good camping and fantastic for a picnic. The water is a bit choppy for skiing, but sailing and tubing are amazing
